We are a group of Canadians who own a small development in Nuevo Vallarta. We needed an attorney to resolve some of our concerns in the area of planning and other legal matters, including the publicity of our development. We were introduced to Mr. Luis Rogelio Ortega Martínez (owner of the Acqua Flamingos development).
Luis Rogelio Ortega Martínez presented himself as a Lawyer with many connections in the Government of Nayarit, including the accusations of being close to the Governor and having the ability to solve all our problems quickly. He told us that he had to receive the full payment in advance. We were worried, but as we tried to solve our problems for a long time we gave him a deposit of 12,000.00 USD which he said would be deposited into a client's Trust account.
Months went by and after several lies and excuses for the phone calls, one day we entered his office, we found him clearly under the influence of narcotics and alcohol. He started yelling at us in a very nasty way, finally after his secretary calmed him down, he said that in two weeks he was going to get the job done. After several more months of calls and visits to his office, we gave up and hired another attorney who in 3 weeks did a wonderful job and charged us only $ 3,250.
