I cancelled my rocket lawyer account on the 1st march. I then logged in in may and recieved an email saying I had another 7 day free trial, cancelled my subscription but got charged for the next 2 months. They then refused to do anything about it or refund my anything despite not using their services.
I have been scammed by Rocket Lawyer" I initially signed up for Rocket Lawyer services only to find a "Advance Directive" or living will that would fit my needs. The services were free according to their advertisement or I was lead to believe. I entered my credit card information to get the lAdvance Directive form which "free" according to their ad. I cancelled their services the same day and was told it would be cancelled. I used a credit card that normally is not used except for emergencies. i checked the card 8 months later and noticed "Rocke Lawayer" had been charging me $40,.00 for the last 8 months. They claim I never notified them, but Rocket Lawyers are your typical scammers who say they are legal experts. "BEWARE"
What do you call it when you say that you're only going to charge $1 but end up charging someone $40? I call it FRAUD!
This was their response after I told them that I did NOT authorize this charge -

I have researched your account and you have actually canceled everything on the account and was charged both the $39.95 and the $1.00. Please be advised that we have processed a refund in the amount of $40.95 to the credit/debit card you used on Rocket Lawyer.

Additionally, your Rocket Lawyer account has been downgraded to the Free Membership level. If you wish to join a Legal Plan you are welcome to do so at any time you may do so by visiting our sign up page.

I have been trying to cancel my membership for the past 6 months! They do not answer the phone and I have left countless messages, but they have never returned my calls. They offer an online chat help option, but in the event that you do manage to get ahold of a representative, they say that they, "do not have the authority to downgrade or cancel memberships".
There is even a specific option when you call their toll free number for downgrading memberships (apparently their billing department does not have that authority either... go figure). Upon selecting that option, you are placed on hold for an extended period of time. Usually it goes to voicemail. But in the event you do get through, even the membership cancellation department does not have the authority to cancel memberships! They continuously make up a lame excuse, saying that, "your account type cannot be downgraded and we will call you back".
I finally did get them to call me back, only after disputing the last six months of membership fees. (This tends to generate callbacks from ANY institution that does business like this, as it compromises their merchant/ payment processing ability, and six chargebacks is no joke no matter how big of a company you are.)
To anyone who is struggling with cancelling your membership, I implore you to contact your financial institution and charge back the last 6 months of payments. You will win the dispute because they are well aware of their history.
Their customer service is shabby, you can tell that there is very little quality control and they are a half-hazard company flying by the seat of their pants.
To anyone looking for online legal services, I would highly recommend choosing an alternative, such as LegalZoom or the like, as Rocket Lawyer is an absolute nightmare! I implore you to write a formal complaint to California's attorney general -- It's the only way they'll stop operating under the scheme they call a business.
This company has apparently been taking money out of my account since July of 2016. I never authorized them to do so. The amount they have removed since July is $239.70. I am on a limited monthly incom. I will be cancelling my card immediately. Thank you. I can be reached at . Patricia A Welker
