The employees and contractors who work for owners Richard C. and Lyn A. Bessey at the apartment complex Chateau 68, at 6805 S. Lewis in Tulsa and Waterstone apartments in Tulsa at 1054 E. 57th Pl. have been totally screwed over by these owners. When we were first hired, we were told we would be contractors instead of employees and they told us this was our benefit since we could write off our taxes with tools, our cars, and our uniforms. They also told us that THIS WAS SO THEY COULD SAVE ON WORKERS COMPENSATION INSURANCE AND TAXES and that they would share with us those savings, but they never did. They said we were contractors but we still had to show up exactly at a certain time in the morning… and if we didn’t, we would be fired. The employees all worked together and had to show up at a certain time every day like any other job so I didn’t see how we were contractors. We were paid hourly and didn’t pay taxes. We had a few major injuries and they didn't even help at all. Lyn Bessey, the owner, told us that we HAD to take a thirty minute lunch break and then made us work through the break on most days, even though we never got paid. The lunch breaks were always deducted even though we were made to work most of the time. It was awful and this has gone on for years. We had to drive to get all the parts for the property maintenance in our personal cars, on our lunch breaks, and were never compensated for it. No gas money, no pay for lunch, no overtime, nothing. We never got paid for the lunch breaks and when we told them we should be paid, they said we were contractors and would be paid with some of their savings on taxes. We ALWAYS worked more than eight hours per day but never got paid for it. I don’t think this is right. Nobody is offered any benefits, no time off, no vacation, no lunch breaks, no overtime even though some are working like 60 hours a week, nothing, and when we work overtime, which is every week, we are paid our regular straight time and called contractors. That aint right. My family was depending on this and I know the others were too. I hope something will be done. These people are crooks. They've screwed all their vendors too. --Apartment Owners-- Richard Bessey and Lyn Bessey 2582 S. Oakwood Drive Bountiful, UT 84010
