Richard luthmann was hired to represent me and came highly recommend. Obviously with the recommendation and the fact that he was an attorney i trusted my case would be handled with diligence and professionalism. Wow was i wrong. First the day i met luthmann he told me my case would be over quickly and he was able to handle it " i do these cases all the time " was the exact term he used. I gave him a retainer and he was allegedly starting work. After many months of no word and calling numerous times i finally got an appointment to see him. Upon entering his office i was greeted by tamara moore, luthmanns wife/secretary. She immediately handed me a bill and asked for a check. I was dumbfounded at the fact she was asking for a check when it had been months of nothing from their office and i was unaware of any work that had been done. I told her i would like to speak with mr luthmann before paying anymore then the retainer i had given him. She proceeded to tell me that was fine but to speak to him today i would be billed for the consultation. At this point i said ok send me a bill because i wanted to see luthmann and find out what the hell was going on with my case.
Now i meet with luthmann. The first thing that told me somthing was off was the fact that he was bright red in the face sweating profusely and looked very nervous. I asked him what the progress was on my case and he told me about all of the work he did and that he was actually working on my case that morning. All he showed me was an email he sent to the other attorney. The email it self was somthing that was completely idiotic. I informed luthmann i did not find his email to be funny i found it very irritating that he was make a joke out of my case. He apologized and told me he's on it and i have nothing to worry about. I discussed the fact that i was asked to pay a bill and didn't feel that the money i had given him already was even close to being used for the work done. He told me " don't worry about it we'll settle up at the end " and " i'll get you results " .
Months went by no word from luthmann no return of calls or emails. Only to be informed by email that he was putting in an appeal on my case??. An appeal? I called up and once again got tamara moore on the phone who told me " richard was very busy, he's a very important attorney and is with clients all day today " she said if i'd like she can set an appointment for me. The earliest availability was 5 weeks. After demanding to speak with luthmann i finally got him on the phone where he said " the judge ruled against us but we have major grounds for an appeal". He then went on to tell me that he would need a new retainer for the appeal.
I hired a new attorney. After my new attorney began looking into my case he found that mr luthmann 1. Didn't show up for court dates and 2. Didn't submit any of the proper documentation he said he did. Luthmann then tried to have his office call me to ask " when i planned to pay my outstanding bill". Could you believe a bill he had the nerve to ask for. After seeing the news and papers about this guy i came to to warn others on staten island and found there already was two on him one was at his law firm and one is a company called kodiak funding and under richard luthmann or rich luthmann. I wouldn't recommend this man to anyone. He's a liar and a crook. I was also told by another attorney i had consulted that luthmann has a very bad alcohol problem and it's well known around the staten island courts. So that's it i wouldn't recommend him to anyone
