Rhapsody International Inc. Reviews

  • Aug 26, 2015

After reviewing AMEX bill for fraud, my husband noticed a charge for $16.18 from Rhapsody/Napster. When we discussed it, we realized it was a MP3 service we used around 2005 for music. We had not realized that we had been charged monthly since 2005 for serivces we did not need or use since we are Apple iPhone/iTune users and have been for years. We probably only downloaded less than 2 dozen songs but have racked up almost $2,000.00 in monthly charges over 10 years.

I spent 2 hours on the phone with AMEX, and when trying to contact R/N, the number I first called was only an automated number, no option to speak to a person. AMEX was able to provide me with a number where I talked to a call center in India. After I explained my problem, with no resolution, I was given another number which was to another call center in India. After 2 calls to Rhapsody/Napster (we thought Napster had gone out of business) customer service I was told that it was my problem that I did not look at my bills, not R/N. I didn't even know we had Napster anymore. When we discussed their billing policy, I explained that for every re-occuring monthly account I have, I receive an email indicating my account will be renewed unless I notify the account otherwise.

I could not even remember the user name or password for R/N and certainly had no idea we were being billed for it. I am angry that we have paid for services that we have not used and for the lack information and notification that Napster had become Rhapsody.

I realize as a consumer we have responsibilites to review our charges however, this was tied to my husband's AMEX and he just pays the monthly bill so he wasn't familiar with R/N (especially since it hasn't been in our vocabulary since 2006).

Rhapsody/Napster should send yearly notices to inquire if their customers would like to continue their subscriptions.

R/N is ripping off customers, has poor customer service and unethical business practice; taking money from our account monthly. They can review our account and determine we had with no downloads or services provided for years but yet they still contend "it's your problem."
