UP-DATE! This letter below was hand delivered to Dr. Anlikers office, there was NO REPLY, no phone call, no sorry, nothing!
This is a complaint addressing the extreme abuse I suffered from the unethical, and unprofessional medical doctor known as Wayne L. Anliker, OD. MD.
On September 30th 2020, I went to Flint Hills Health Center and was diagnosed with a very serious case of shingles on the face. The outbreak was so severe that my eye was partially closed, scabs and wounds oozing puss was obvious on the complete left side of my face, on immediate observation I was directed to see an eye doctor immediately because of the good chance that the shingles could have spread to my eye. My anxiety was heightened even more so when it was mentioned that this condition could mean permanent damage and loss of sight being blind.
I was directed to go to Doctor Anliker located at 1602 W. 15th Avenue Suite B Emporia, KS 66801
When I arrived my wife looked for a wheelchair, I was too weak to walk, she could not find one. She helped myself to the front door when I was immediately asked for my insurance card before anything else was even inquired about.
I was then directed to a room in the back where I began the waiting process.
After about 10 minutes a nurse arrived, I told her I was a bit sensitive and about my condition and to please be careful, she did a test on my eye, nothing really hurt, I simply flinched a bit, and it was over.
Then we waited for what seemed eternity considering my anxiety about being "rushed" right away to an eye doctor.
In the lobby was much conversation, I could hear doctors and patients talking, laughing, nurses and patients talking and laughing, someone spoke about sunglasses, I was not trying to be judgmental about the situation, I was well aware that many patients may simply be getting vision check ups, or more simple examinations and I am sure also some more serious operations as well.
However as serious as my case was, and the doctor was notified about it ahead of time, it did begin to bother me after a while of hearing a lot of chit chat and no one coming in the room after what seemed to myself a long, long wait.
I was in bad pain, so I asked my wife to get my water and Ibuprofen from the car, when she was literally with the pills in her hand and was giving them to me to take, the doctor came in and asked her to stop that.
When the doctor arrived there was no formal introduction, no eye contact, he simply came right in, turned to the left where the counter top was and with his back closed he stated, "shingles." And that was it.
After that it took less than 10 seconds for him to tell me to "get into this chair." He then said, "I need you to put your face in here."
I began slowing to adjust my face into the machine, it seemed a little low for my chin to go in, so I was hoping to adjust it when the doctor grabbed BOTH shoulders from behind and forced myself into the machine, face first with swollen eye shut, puss blisters all over my face, he said "come on!" the force was enough that my face did in fact reach the destination of where I was suppose to be, but because of the force, and pain of course I flinched.
Well that was all it took to make the doctor angry. As soon as I flinched, he immediately got visibly upset and threw back the machine from my face, looked at me and stated matter of factly " I am busy, I fit you into my busy schedule, are we going to do this or not"?
Just as nasty, rude and cold as that.
I was shocked and upset, but in that moment intense fear overcame me and he intimidated myself, because there was the fact that I was looking at a clicking clock that was in my mind, a clock that was running out of time to becoming blind, waiting for 30 or 40 minutes and with no other choice, I was frightened so of course I said "yes" when he asked me the question.
He then looked at one eye, ( about 3 seconds) and then the other and said, "you're fine."
He then went back to the counter with his back turned and began asking why we didn't do this and that, and rattled on much complaining, my wife was trying to explain to him that what he was saying was incorrect, but he wouldn't listen and cut her off, then I interrupted and tried to explain that we had done the things that he said we should have done, and that the doctors were prescribing medication and he wouldn't listen, saying something about, "those people didn't prescribe you medicine"?
The worst of all of this was yet to come however.
Yes, you could say, pain and discomfort would be the worse, but in life nothing hurts more than being considered like a piece of dirt.
Two words, humiliation, and disrespect to myself and more, my wife.
When he left, he said nothing, not one single word, not "I hope you get better" nothing . . . . he opened the door and just walked away like we were trash and garbage.
My wife and I sat there in disbelief, we were actually speechless, we said nothing to each other, we didn't know even what to do, no one said "the exit is that way" or "you can go now" or even "get out of here" no...nothing, so we waited for about only 1 minute, I said to my wife; "I guess were suppose to leave" we were actually confused.
Just then, a young girl stuck her head around the corner, she didn't say a word, but leaned over in a way that suggested that she was waiting for us to leave the room.
As we gathered our things, she did this again, but this time I glanced out the door and saw a gentleman sitting down in the corridor and he was waiting, and she and him made eye contact as if to say, you can go in that room now, so in essence, after we were treated like sewage, they were now desperately just wanting to get rid of us.
That was it.
My wife will verify every fact here, not one bit of it is exaggerated.
As of October 22, I still have a serious case of shingles pain, it has been 25 days, I have been lacking sleep for 3 days in a row, each week, one week sleeping no more than 2 hours a night, regardless of nerve pain medications, face creams, opium, antibiotics, pain killers, ibuprofen, none of these is working.
I mention this because of the seriousness of the physiological damage that this virus can have on you, then consider the appalling treatment being forced into a machine while in pain, treated rudely, and if that is not enough, consider the machine itself.
They were in a big hurry to get their next appointment, did I see a person with a spray bottle coming in? No.
Consider a serious contagious disease such as shingles, and the fact that I saw nobody wiping down the machine that my face was forced into. I can only pray that some poor soul was not forced to be placed into that machine and received what I have on my face.
Because of the seriousness of these statements, I believe the public should be notified about this doctor on the internet also, and intend to do so. I expect to be contacted about the matter immediately please.
