In 2014 we ordered and installed their OneTouch unit that " With the push of a button instantly calls a highly trained Telecaregiver who immediately responds to the emergency". The elderly client (87 at that time) obediently paid for over a year without ever using it or testing if it works.
In October 2015 a relative happened to be at the elder's apartment who decided to test it, and found out that it did not work. They called the Rescare, asked them to test the unit, and as a result found out that "the batteries were not good". Rescare promiced to ship out the batteries, and never did.
In two weeks (still paying their bills!) the client fell, and tried to use the famous "one-touch saviour", but to no avail. Fortunately, she did not die, but had been unconcious for a while until some service people in the building came to check on her. Hospital and lengthy recovery had followed. The client was able to move back home after two months and after having hired a personal assistant.
The personal assistant called ResCare to cancel their service in january, 2016. Rescare customer Service peopole were infuriated and demended the pastdue bills to be paid before resolving any issues. The unit HAD NOT BEEN WORKING for months by then. After a number of phone calls during the months of January and February filled with attempts to resolve the issue or al teast get the batteries and get it to work, we were told that "the old units are not to be fixed", and "we could just dispose of it and order a new one"...
ResCare kept sending bills that kept multiplying as time went. The elderly client was not only NOT PROVIDED with a working unit, but also constantly harrassed by the customer service people calling and sending bills in.
We have tried to settle the issue, but they kept bouncing us around to various people AND COMPANIES. In March, 2016 it turned out that "the one-touch response units were bought out by "Valued Relationships Incorporated" 1-888-500-1684. We called and talke to Derel, who explained that they were "JUST A MONITORING COMPANY", and in turn redirected us to Gloria at (708) 386-1500. After multiple calls to Gloria, we were sent to Julie Slaughter at (704)665-8545 (Billing for the state of Illinois - our home state).
Calling Julie was only successful once, she promiced to call back after she lookes into the issue and adjusts the bill. We called 03/08, 03/14, 03/15, 03/17, spoke with someone by the name Dana, who refused to give any information and took messages for Julie Slaughter, who was incidentally out of the office until 03/21/16. Our last call was 03/27, same message left for Julia with Dana, NOTHING EVER HAPPENED! They have never called back.
Lo and behold, in December, we are receiving a new bill.... for the months of September, 2015 through February, 2016. That is for the months of the disaster because of their non-functioning unit, and for the months of our futile attempts to call them up and resolve the billing issue.
I have a feeling that I should not only file these types of reports (coming uo is BBB, which they are sertified with!?!?!), but also call up the elder abuse hotline!
BEWARE!!! It they stand behind all of the services they offer like this - DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM!!! FEAR for the lives of your close ones!
Over the past 6 mo. there have been many times when they have had caregivers on a set schedule to care for my 95 yr. old mother no show up,or leave early or,arrive late, followed by no one coming the next day, leaving her to fend for herself. many conversations wirh Sandy in scheduling and Rebecca, always given assurances that they would handle it but promises made only fulfilled sometimes. they don't seem to be able to supply needed people when something out of the norm. they always say we have it covered but when no shows up just get more storys and excuses. I have searched the net and find I am one of many with similar problems with Rescare. always get same old story from them and they seem to have a storyline already discussed amongst themselves to tell me so as to not be able to get anywhere with them. do NOT reccomend using them as caregivers as very un reliable and staff seems to be less than competent. to tell me over and over "been doing this for 20 yrs.+" does not mean you do a good job.
