My daughter was involved in an accident, Renners was the tow company called by the police, I asked the trooper at the scene if the car could be towed to my house. She said tell the tow company, I told the tow driver he said ok, I left to go home because the cable on the tow truck broke & they had to go to get another tow truck. I knew then that this was going to be a problem. I waited over an hour at home & no car I called & the driver said he was very busy & backed up but would call me when he was dropping off the car. I got a call shortly thereafter from the owner stating they had the car on the lot. I said it was supposed to be brought to my home & this was confirmed with the driver. I asked the charge he said $299. I called the troop barracks because I knew this price was very high, the trooper agreed and said he would pass the information on to his Sgt. I went to Renners saw the bill they were charging the CT state towing limit of $88 but also $150 for "labor" and $29.50 for a bag of speedy dry. Ok I believe in making a profit but this was highway robbery. When I asked the owner about the labor charge I was told it was for placing speedy dry, cleaning it up, bringing to his lot, and picking up parts. Ok there was fluids on the ground, I saw a back of speedy dry used, and there was a parking light on the ground. But all of this was less than 1 hr of work When I questioned the labor charge the owner became belligerent and intimidating. I had to call the state police 3 times to intercede and for me to get the car towed to my house as I originally requested. This was the worst towing experience I've had in 30 years of driving. I felt as though this was some sort of towing scam in which they used an unfortunate situation to try to take advantage. It seemed as if ever time I tried to get the car to my house there was some excuse as to it costing me more money. Absolutely horrible!!!
