Micha Wenzel called me on the telephone about an ad I had placed looking for a moving crew. I had already reserved a Uhaul truck and had received about 10 bids from other interested movers. The ad asked people to text me because I didn’t have time to talk to everyone on the phone but when I told him this he just kept on talking and said he could save me a lot of money! He said he had "state of the art” equipment and that he and his helper worked alone and were faster than anyone else because of the way they worked. He assured me that even though their hourly rate was high that he was more than twice as fast as other movers because his truck had an elevator and they had other state of the art equipment. He was a good talker and I decided to give him a try. I am not inexperienced in hiring movers having moved several times in the last few years but somehow he conned me and I fell for his schtick hook line and sinker as I was soon to discover. He talked me into cancelling my Uhaul and letting him use his truck with all his "state of the art” equipment! Well, it turns out he just had a bunch of dollies and a lift gate so that he and his buddy didnt have to hand carry anything. Plus he has a big wooden box on wheels he placed loose items in as well as some wardrobe boxes that he used for what he called "speed packing”. Long story short it took them 6 hours to load and unload an 8 x 25’ storage unit that wasn’t full. Although he promised me in our initial call that there would be no extra charges and that his hourly was all inclusive, he tried to charge me for the wardrobe boxes, trash disposal and gas. On the invoices he claimed to have repacked e wry box which was not the case. They did tape up some boxes but they did. It repack them. They also took a 5 minute break every hour which in an 8 hour day amounts to 40 minutes. They did not stop the clock during these breaks so I was charged. Neither of these men were fit. Micha Wenzel is fairly tall but older and not in good shape. His helper, Paul, was also older and pretty small. Because of their use of all the wheeled dollies, they convinced me to do the job in phases so they could use the dollies again after unloading the first bit. It ended up taking two days instead of one because of this. It got too late after unloading at my new house on the first day and Micha convinced me to do my tiny house the second day. I felt I was stuck so I agreed. I was moving out of a little teeny one bedroom guest house on a horse ranch. I had 95% of everything packed already. Micha Wenzel unpacked and repacked stuff unnecessarily on the second day. Micha then convinced me to let him call out a third guy and add $25 to the already outrageous rate of $125 per hour for a total of $150 per hour. The third guy, Omar, was much better than Micha or Paul but I felt I was being gouged and the job still took a ridiculous 9 hours and it was dark again at the end. Micha Wenzel works for FedEx or UPS or something in the mornings so he could never start these moves until midday. This he failed to divulge until well into the job. Anyway, they ended up charging me $375 just for the truck although the Uhaul would have been less than half that even with the mileage charge! And while most licensed and insured crews of 2 men and a truck Charge $60 to $65 an hour they charged me $125! MORE THAN DOUBLE THE GOING RATE! None of their promises held up and I felt conned. For 3 guys it was $150 which they charged me in the second day after telling me originally that 3 men wasn’t efficient! So with the job only 2/3 done I was charged OVER $2000! I still had 40’ storage container to empty so I fired them and hired a different crew at the going rate of 3 men for $75 per hour and they did a great job in only four hours loading and unloading. I tipped them well after my bad experience with Relocation Engineers. Micha Wenzel had professional looking invoices but he never signed anything. There was no place for the owners signature on any of the paperwork. Although he was a smooth talker and acted really nice and kind like he was my friend he quickly changed his tune when I expressed concerns and he called me names and accused me of fraud because he apparently has a brother in law who works for the City of San Diego and he tried to intimidate me with that. He is bad news and I hope this story prevents people from having the same horrible experience I had.
