I had just finished HVAC-R training and stopped in the 1276 N Lake St store in Aurora Il. The salesperson was right on top of me the whole time. I was shocked at the cost after he got me to try a pair on. I laughed and said I couldn't really afford that kind of money for boots.
They then informed me they carry a lifetime warranty which would cover me as long as the boots were oiled regularly with their brand of boot oil and not abused. I ended up spending over $400 for the boots and accessories! I recently had the boots fall apart and went to find the store I originally purchased the boots from but it was gone?!
I then went to the Sycamore IL store. They basically laughed at me and told me I was not covered in any way at all! I told them or the promise made by the salesperson they said if that was the case back then it was not the case now. I said you can't just change that, he laughed and said the company can change policy at anytime. I stated I would fall under old policy.
I then contacted the company and didn't hear back until I filled with the Better Business Bureau. Redwing customer service stated they didn't believe me and they would only offer a resole of the boot! I then found out that most of their boots are no longer even made in the USA. This company has made me look like a fool with no remorse or responsibility for their employees actions. My guess is they closed that store for issues of this kind! Avoid this company as they are not worth $240 for a pair of boots with terrible customer service and no warranty above a normal priced pair.
Ah Red Wing Boots and shoes. I have purchased several over the years. The last pair I bought the sole is peeling off in layers (it is a layered sole) Guess what? Red Wing does not warranty their soles for over a year. I'm not talking about a worn off sole, I'm talking about a very nice 95% sole on a pair of $200 boots. I went to the Red Wing Store in West Wichita and even though it is an obvious defect, they would not replace them or the sole because the shoe was over 1 year old. They did glue it for free and it lasted a bit but then they just peeled apart. I have now proudly displayed my junk Red Wings for all my customers to see. I have never in 54 years has a sole peel off a shoe in layers! I am sure RED WING HAS REPLACED LOT OF THESE...but since mine is older than a year...too bad. So if you are reading this post avoid Red Wing Shoes. If you are going to spend this kind of money there is no excuse for not standing behind your bad products.
