I responded to a Craigs List Ad for "runners" and :techs" for a fire and water mitigation company "expanding in Ohio" I was contacted by a young lady named Angela who stated she was a recruiter for Real Pro Inc. She sent me paper work to sign then I heard nothing for several days. Finally I get a call from her asking if I was ready to take run calls, and she sent me to a home in Dayton Ohio, I was instructed to have the customer sign a contract authorizing Real Pro to begin work and was told a "mitigation crew" would be in route. While there a man named Elmer shows up and said he was the mitigation crew. He arrived in a small beat-up pickup truick with a mop and bucket to remove the water that had spilled from a burst water heater on the second floor. The house was carpeted and so naturally he was unable to do anything. I called the "Company" (Jordon) and was told another remediation crew would be dispatched. The next morning I received a second call from Angela asking me to "tech" the job. and meet with the "mitigation crew" at noon. I After speaking to Jordon and later Jake to get clarrification as to what I was expected to do I headed back to Dayton to oversee the "crew"
I arrived at 12:30 expecting to find a crew already there removing water from the soaked carpets. Instead I was greeted by a very unhappy tenant and later an angry property owner who wanted to know why it was over 24 hours and the water was still on the floors. I was in a spot and tried to appear proffessional which lead to a huige embarrassmnet as I soon learned no crew was arriving. I then was givien a credit card number to use at Home Depot and asked to go rent water extraction equipment and fans to dry the home myself! While at the Home Depot Jordon called me and said the owner said not to come back that he had called another repyutable company to get there right away!
Jake called and claimed this had "never" happened and reassured me I would be paid at minimum $300 for my time and travel. Being a trusting soal I beleived his story and waited for the next call.
The next debacle occured when I was dispatched to London Ohio but instead rerouted to Fairfield Ohio to a flooded apartment. Upon arrival I had the tennant sign the agreement, which I frankly found odd since they do not own, nor have legal rights to authorize work on the property. I was again asked to actually perform the work as per Jake " all of our other crews are tied up tonight, and we really need to get this started for these people." I went and purchased a large shop vac and began the task of removing raw sewage from the bathroom and hall of the apartment. I worked to 1:30 in the morning and was basically told by Jake that I would need to go back and finish the job, to include cleaning the carpets tearing out drywall that was wet, baseboards, vanity and shower/tub surround! I arrived the next day and continued to work.
Eventually I met Jake face to face and he provided 3 fans and a dehumidifier he claimed was his companie;s equipment, despite the large stickers that read " Property of Home Dept" ( they were obviously rented, unless he had stolen them) The work continued and AFTER I began Jake discussed how intended to pay me at an hourly rate well below my normal billing rate. Further he said he would not pay me for any hours worked until 3 weeks after completion. I explained that I needed payment sooner or would be unable to return to the site, and he then agreed to get me an advance for the work performed so far as "runner" and "tech" from both jobs. I then stupidlty turned over my banking info to Angela for direct deposit!
Fast forward sevral days and still no money so I conatct Jake who then reemd me and said he didi not have time to deal with all the subs he needed cash and if I asked again he would not pay me a dime! A dispute ensued and next thing I know he is making claims of theft against me and reported to the local police that I had taken equipment that was actually left on the job site. To shorten the story a bit the propertyu ownewr got involved and refused to pay either of us since no legitimate contrazct was provided. I spent a weak busting my a*s for , in my opinion, a con artist and now I will never be paid!
BOTTOM LINE: If you are wise never work for Real PRo Inc, I wish I had checked this site first to see the other complaint against them. Warning to property owners. This company appears to have no liquidity nor any actual proffessionals to send to your property. In my persomnal opinion they are little more than con artists! I would NEVER reccomend them. Call ServePro or Icon or any number of other REPUTABLE companies!
