Over the past 8 months Rare has been involved with many different types of unlawful, and unprofessional acts towards their community, this community which revolves around their game Sea Of Thieves. Back in August a massive ban wave went out, wiping out about 100 players. Some of which were cheating, some of which were not. Rare received endless files of complaints from the people who were falsely accused of cheating, but they pushed those requests away and didnt care to help them.
This just happened again about 3 months ago. Except this time around 300 people got banned, and too my understanding, almost none of these people were cheating. They were all part of a community known as the TDM community, which is notorious for taking Sea of Thieves very seriously and competitively. This resulted in Rare banning people because of the amount of reports they were getting from people in game. Rare decided to send a few undercover people to scope out discord servers where these TDMers resided. The people that scoped out these discords either made lists, or took note of the people inside them with their Xbox accounts linked to their discord accounts, and PERMANENTLY, banned over 300 people from Sea of Thieves, then from Xbox live itself.
I myself, and countless other people have spent months researching how to communicate with Rare and the Xbox enforcement team in a professional manner to reason with them as to why we were banned with absolutely no explanation nor reason as to why we received such harsh punishment. Over these past months I have sent countless customer service reports asking what their motive was and why they chose the people they did (including me) when they released a massive ban wave. And to my surprise, every single report I had sent was sent the exact same answer..."Your were banned because of your association with the person or organization The Fake News.
You are permanently banned from our servers and not welcome back." The shocking part about that sentence, is that in their terms, being "associated" with one or more person(s) means that you should suffer a severe punishment, for merely being in a discord server with them. If that was the case with every cheater on the planet. Then hundreds upon millions of people would be banned for things they did not do, nor would ever do. Rare has also sent threats to people and their credit card accounts due to the things they have sent to them in customer support requests. I do not condone the trolling that the people sent to Rare, but their response to the trolling is unacceptable.
They have given us the impression that they have either searched our files on our computer or made some sort of effort to find information about us or our families that was not previously provided to them. This is completely unprofessional. I have also gotten in touch with Xbox asking what my permanent ban for that was related to but to my avail, I had gotten the automated message that my ban was warranted. But only about 2-3 of the 300 people that were banned on Sea of Thieves and Xbox itself know the real reason why they got banned.
I myself do not know, and I feel as if thousands of dollars have been stolen from mine, and hundreds of other peoples accounts. This is borderline stealing, and unless they provide and insight or reason as to why we received such harsh punishment I will continue to believe that. This has been a completely unprofessional experience and we need to change this now.
