They sent me tickets with a different date than what I purchased and refused to correct the mistake or refund me. Instead they suggested I should have purchased their travel insurace to fix their mistake. Clearly a scam.
RailEurope sold me First Class Seats for me and my wife on a train from Munich Germany to Padua Italy.
We were informed in writing that we had "open tickets" for this train, and "All seats on this train are open and cannot be reserved. It is first come, first served; just sit in any seat available in the same class of service as on the open ticket."
This statement was not true. We arrived a half-hour before the train was to depart and found that all seats in First Class were occupied by people with reservations. We were told by the conductor to go to Second Class and look for open seats. She would write on our tickets later that we were unable to obtain First Class seats -- but I went into a phone loop today trying to speak with someone about a partial refund. Try doing an internet search for "Rail Europe complaints" and see what you find.
There were many anxious minutes wandering through several train carriages looking for open seats. Almost everyone in Second Class also had reserved seats! We finally found two seats that were open for a while until people came onto the train later with reservations for our seats. Fortunately, other passengers would get off the train and we would take their seats - an unpleasant game of musical chairs for what was supposed to be a relaxing 6 hour train ride in First Class seats.
Buyer beware - my recommendation is: Do not buy from RailEurope!
