I trusted this company and he quoted me $9500 but discounted me to $8700 to widen my driveway with asphalt. He did not put the square footage into the contract. He said that the job would be done in a few weeks but showed up within 3 days to do the job. I guess he did not want to allow me any time to get other quotes.
It turns out that the normal rate for this work is about $10 per square foot (per other quotes). I discovered that he put down about 550 square feet of asphalt so the job should have costed about $5500 to $6000. So he was $2700 higher than anyone else. He also charged $1000 to seal the driveway. I have since had quotes for that in the range of $600.
If you look at other reviews, Mr. Rafferty did the same or tried to do the same to other people. I know that the rule is "let the buyer beware" but companies such as Rafferty Paving SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to be on sites such as Home Advisor. I tried to appeal to Mr. Rafferty to get some of my money back but he ignores my emails.
