In April, we paid Chuck and Michelle Thall of Raetrent Remodeling tens of thousands of dollars to replace our windows and doors in our house. We put a down payment of eight grand upfront and then promptly paid the remaining thousands after the co-owner Chuck prompted us to do so. The company had dozens of positive reviews, a positive rating with the Better Business Bureau, and was highly recommended by those in our community - so we did not give a second thought to paying the money.
Chuck kept pushing us off with regard to the installation date and blamed the delays on the manufacturers and suppliers of the materials for our project. We were getting upset over the delays, but Chuck assured us that it was their delays and also a result of the pandemic.
On August 26th, Chuck Thall was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. We confirmed the news when we found the crash report online. The next day, Chuck's niece shared a GoFundMe link on Twitter and they ended up raising over $45,000 for the Thall family. While we feel for their loss, Michelle Thall has ignored any inquiries as to the money or the project. We have connected with others who have experienced the same thing with Raetrent Remodeling and we have learned that there are likely more than 40 victims.
After reaching out to the suppliers, we also learned that our orders were never placed, despite being told they were by Chuck Thall. We were also informed that while they could not release any names of the other victims, there were a great deal of us and the suppliers had actually stopped working with Raetrent Remodeling because the owners were so far behind in paying for their customers' orders.
The family has already raised over $45,000 in donations via GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/donate-to-help-support-the-thall-family and they are planning to attend a local fundraiser on November 14th at the Harvest Saloon in Strongsville, Ohio. We understand that no amount of money can compensate for the loss of their loved one, but we deserve an explanation of what is happening with our project and/or money -- and so do their other victims. Mailed letters, emails, calls, and knocking on her door have all been unsuccessful to this point.
We are at our wit's end with this situation and really cannot afford to be out of the money that we paid this company, which incidentally ended up being over $18,000. As the co-owner of the company, even if she had no intention on honoring the contracts that have been signed and paid for, Michelle Thall should be responsible enough to let us all know what her plans are for the company, our projects, or the money we paid them.
Please help us if at all possible - we don't know what else to do.
