Contracted with R Siding to install a new patio door after being assured it could be done within 2 weeks (allowed 4 weeks). Gave them a deposit of $3000.00 and was promised by office manager that door would be ordered upon receipt of signed contract. Door was in fact not ordered until the following week delaying the project. Door arrived 2 weeks later but we were told it could not then be installed for another week - now 4 weeks later, not the 2 as promised. If door had been ordered when promised, it could have been installed in the time frame allowed. We were scheduled to leave town and had to delay our departure to hopefully see installed door. The installer came on Monday and then abruptly left before finishing and did not return that day. We had to leave on Tuesday, and had informed R Siding that we would be leaving town and unavailable for an extended period of time. That was the necessity of the deadline wanting to have the work finished and paid for! The work (including some soffit work) was finally finished the following week (week number 5!), and we were on vacation. They demanded final payment immediately which was not possible and added a finance charge when it was not paid after 10 days. Then they added another finance charge after another 10 days and called us delinguent! Upon returning home we learned that the door had not been installed properly leaving a gap at one corner to allow cold air and/or bugs to enter the home. The home had been sold and the buyers really wanted the home and wanted to close so accepted the installation, and we paid the balance in full (over $7000.00 total). However, in the meantime they had filed a lien on the property within 4 weeks of completing work and being paid in full! Refuseed to repair the door or give us any compensation for the delays and poor workmanship! Owner had personally promised me that he would guarantee that everything was done satisfactorily. Feel that we were taken advantage of and deliberately misled to get our business. Have never been treated so poorly before, and we have done business with contractors involved in our rental business for over 35 years.
