I called the hotel direct and booked a reservation for a one-night stay. Upon arrival, as I entered the lobby the smell of cigarette smoke was quite evident. As my room was being processed by the front desk clerk, I made a point to ask for a non-smoking room.
I entered my assigned room and was immediately overcome by the smell of cigarette smoke as well as an overall musty, stinky odor. This definitely was not a non-smoking room and I believe that all of the room are for smokers. Typically, there is a sign on the outside of the room door indicating that it is designated as a non-smoking room. There was no sign outside my room door.
At some point during the night, I had to get out of bed to sleep on the little pull out sofa due to something biting me. At the time, I was unable to ascertain the cause of my discomfort. During the "continental breakfast", the tables and common areas were not attended to although there was a woman on duty. She clearly did not bother wiping down the area or sweeping after guests so that others could enjoy a clean environment.
Upon checking out, I made it a point to tell the desk clerk that there were fleas in the room. Fast forward hours later and during the night while sleeping in my own bed, I was awaken to extreme itching around my face, neck, chest, and upper arm areas. I turned on the lights to find large red bumps on my body as well as a bed bug crawling around on top of my fitted sheet. That nasty hotel did not care enough about its guests to ensure that bed bugs and other insects were free from the rooms. All it would have taken was a $13 bottle of bed bug spray which needs to be sprayed thoroughly in every room after each guest checks out. I went to Lowe's to get this product to not only spray down my bedroom, however my entire house. It took two bottles. I do not understand why this is not a regular process at that hotel especially given the large number of truck drivers and construction workers checking in and out on a daily basis.
I am still treating my bed bug bites and had to leave my luggage outside for days to ensure that there were no bugs inside of it. To make matters worse, the hotel overcharged me by $10. I am going to contact the owner and ask for a full refund due to the overwhelming discomfort and disappointment with my stay at this hotel. Save yourself a ton of heartache and stay at the Fairfield Hotel down the street. It's the same price, but a much nicer and cleaner environment. Painting old cabinet doors and passing them off as part of remodeling is the same as putting lipstick on a pig.
