Quality Auto Services Reviews

  • Dec 5, 2016

I took my Chevrolet truck to this shop for diagnosis and repair of the "check engine light" which was on. While there, the Manager suggested that they do the next scheduled maintenance. I agreed and also authorized them to check the brakes and rotate the tires in an "X" pattern. The mechanic who worked on my truck was "Elias" who did a "smoke test" and advised that a "vent valve solennoid", "purge valve assembly" and a "thermostat housing assembly" had to be replaced to repair the "check engine light" problem. I authorized the work without being advised in advance of the cost, which I later learned was $629.62 for the "check engine light" and $24.95 to rotate the tires and check the brakes.

When I got the truck back, I noticed that the "check engine light" was still on and there were no notes on my receipts as to the condition of the brakes. It also appeared that the tires had not been rotated in an "X" pattern as requested. Manager advised that they did not note the paperwork because the brakes were at 100%. Told him that this was impossible since the brakes were put on over 30,000 miles ago. As for the "check engine light", he suggested that I drive the truck for a few days and bring it back if the light did not go out.

Several days later, the "check engine light" was still on so I took the truck back to Quality Auto Services. Manager then did another "smoke test" and advised that the results were different because "Elias" had not done the first one properly. As a matter of fact, Manager advised that "Elias" had been fired due to sub-standard work. Manager then advised that, based on the second "smoke test", the problem appeared to be located between the bottom of the truck and the gas tank. He wanted to charge me $230.00 to remove the gas tank and an undetermined amount to repair whatever problems they found. I reminded him that I had already paid $629.62 in unnecessary parts and labor based on "Elias's" erroneous "smoke test" and wanted credit for that amount before I authorized additional work AND credit for the $24.95 he charged for rotating the tires and checking the brakes since there was no indication that this work had been done. Manager refused so I left to determine what course of action I should follow.

After several weeks of research to determine my rights, obligations and responsibilities under prevailing Delaware consumer laws, I wrote to Quality Auto Services on November 4, 2016 and again on November 18, 2016 with different settlement offers, but received no replies. As an aside, Quality Auto Services offers a 12,000 mile, one year written warranty on all parts installed. They have failed to honor this warranty since the parts installed did not repair the problem for which they were intended - the "check engine light".
