Qatar Airways Reviews

I want to bring to your attention a very stressful, humiliating and inappropriate Qatar baggage check-in incident on September 20that Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Airport Thailand.

I arrived at the airport early for check in, my driver waiting to confirm my flight departure was on time.

I checked two bags to my final destination Windhoek, Namibia, Qatar check in staff weight my carry-on luggage and advised I could only take one piece. I told her that I had two small carry-on bags, she said only one was allowed. I asked her what can I do with the second carry-on bag, (carry-on contained misc. reading material about Namibia, little value) she said to put it inside one of my checked bags. Check in complete, I went to the priority lounge to wait for my flight. One hour before flight time I went to the departure gate and stood in line, when I was approached by Qatar check in staff telling me my luggage was over the weight limit by 8 kilos and that I must pay 13,200 Thai baht. I was totally confused, stating it was her who told me to put the carry-on in my checked luggage and she completed the check in with no problem. I asked to see a supervisor, she called, then told me no one was available, I told her I would wait to speak to the manager. I waited until most everyone had boarded still waiting for the manager, I was told flat out that I must pay 13,200 baht or my luggage would be off loaded from the aircraft. My on-time arrival to Windhoek was very important as this was a business trip. I asked again to see a manager but no one was able to assist me, either pay the money for get off the flight. It was last call to board so with great reluctance I paid the excessive luggage fee with my Platinum American Express and boarded the aircraft.

I was angry and very disturbed the entire flight, not able to eat or sleep only thinking how I was coerced into paying additional fees to Qatar Airlines an incredible amount.

I could have easily had my driver take the second carry-on back to my residence in Thailand, had Qatar staff had told me about the overweight charge of 13,200 Thai bath or over $405 USD.

I am a Travel agent for over 40 years, traveling to 160 countries, never have I experience such a horrible and humiliating situation from any other airline company.

I asked you to consider a full refund to my American Express as soon as possible, this situation will not blow over, my unpleasant story would make for very good reading and debate

I was flying from Tehran to Washington DC via Doha on March 26, 2016, and when I checked in at IKA airport in Tehran, the agent told me they could only give me the boarding pass from Tehran to Doha, and I would need to get my boarding pass from Doha to DC when I arrive at Doha airport.

I only had about 2 hours layover at Doha airport so I was on a tight schedule and had to get my boarding pass ASAP.

Immeditely after our flight landed in Doha, and I walked through very long transfer isles at the airport, I ran to the gate (C12) which was located far away from our arrival gate. they told me i had to go back to the customer service desk to get the boarding pass. I went there and there was a long line of people trying to get their boarding passes. After waiting for almost 15 minutes, one of the staff (named Ahmad) approached me and asked how he could help. I told him i needed my pass and he tool my passport and went to the desk. After about 10 minutes he came back and told me that I could not fly that day and would have to stay overnight in Doha, and they'd try to find a seat for me on a next day flight. I was shocked and surprised because I had a ticket and I was on a transfer flight. I asked him why and to my surpise he explained the flight was overbooked!!! and he said all flights were overbooked!!! I told him that I had to go back to DC on Satuday and could not stay overnight! I asked him what would be the other options? and he said there's no other option and I had to accept that.

I went to the desk with him and he gave my passport to a girl working behind the computer, and said she would help me find a hotel. I waited there for another 15 minutes while my passport was sitting on her desk and she was taking care of other customers. I told her a couple of times that I needed to know what I had to do, and where I had to go, and all she responded was ignorance.

As I was waiting at the customer service desk, and the time was passing, a family of three who were on the same flight from Tehran to Doha and on the same flight from Doha to DC, waiting in the line behind me to get their boarding passes, were checked in by the same girl who was ignoring me!! I told Ahmad and the girl that three passengers just checked in and how come they did not check me in, they told me the selection process was random and they had been selected before!!!

It was getting very close to the departure of the Doha-DC flight, and I was still waiting for the customer service agents to help me. Eventually I talked to Ahmad again, and he gave me my passport back and said I should go to the second floor to the transfer desk, and they'd help me wiht the hotel outside of the airport. It was vert far from the customer serice desk. I walked there, and after sending me back and forth between multile desks, finally one of the agents checked my ticket and said I could fly the same day, and there was a seat available on the flight, and that I was assiged a seat but the custmer service agents either did not check, and did not want to give me the seat!

I had to run between the transfer desk and the gate (which was a long distance) to barely make it to the flight.

It was a vert stressful and exhausting two hours at Doha airport, and after running back and forth bewtween different customer service departments and talking to many people, i eventually sat on the flight, all sweaty, tired, and upset of the bad customer serive I had received.

This was my first time flying with Qatar Airways, and was surely my last time too. There are other airlines like Emirates and Etihad that provice better customer service, and have more courteous staff, which more competetive prices. I highy suggest anyone planning to fly with QA, double think it and look at other airlines, even if they are a couple of hundred $$ more, it's woth it.
