On December 27th of 2021 my wife and I were driving back to Louisiana after visiting family for Christmas. South of Little rock our rental car from Avis broke down on the side of the road. After waiting for over 5 hours Avis sent a tow truck to take us and the car to the Avis location at the airport in Little Rock.
Avis instructed the tow truck driver to leave the car in a maintenance lot for Avis at the airport. We were then given a new rental vehicle by the airport location staff. The vehicle was dropped off without damage. My wife took a photo of the undamaged vehicle on the tow truck.
Early in 2022 Lauren Williams at PurCo Fleet Services contacted us claiming we owe over $1300 for damages to the vehicles windshield. After being told that we dropped off a car without winshield damage, she requested documentation. We provided a photo of the undamaged car, but her response was that, "If there is a crack running the length of the bottom (for instance) it would not be seen in this photo." PurCo cannot provide us documentation of the alleged crack location, but simultaneusly dismmisses our own documentation of an intact windshield.
It appears that either damage occured on the Avis parking lot while out of our custody or PurCo is trying to collect in bad faith for damages that never existed.
Purco is the infamous risk management company that handles “loss prevention” — chasing down and billing car rental agency customers loss claims, even if false. I rented a car in Arizona in April of this year. It struck a rock on a freeway, which greatly damaged the oil pan and a bushing. Of course I had not gotten rental insurance, assuming my credit card would provide rental insurance.
Two months later Purco billed me for over $3,200 for repairing the oil pan and bushing. They emailed photos and invoices, etc. this fee included the charge for loss of use and everyone’s favorite: “administrative fees”.
Not wanting a ‘hit’ on my car insurance record, I paid the full amount. (I learned credit card provides insurance only after your regular auto insurer pays a share.) Case closed.
Here’s the kicker: in early July Purco emailed a ‘second damage estimate’ demanding over $1,400 to pay for more damage that was discovered. Again they emailed blurry photos that showed nothing. My local garage service people say a ‘second damage estimate’ is unheard of. I think that because I paid a huge amount, Purco sees me as a pigeon and is trying to get more easy money out of me. They haven’t even invested in a stamp!
I don’t have the money. I think this whole setup is theft. If I don’t pay, what’s the worst they can do? Lower my credit score?
BUYER BEWARE TOTAL RIP OFF: Be careful when using this company at this location. In fact do not use them. I rented a truck at the end of July 2016 and returned it 10.30 PM in perfect condition from DOLLAR in SLC, went and caught my flight and thought nothing of it. Several month later I got a letter in the mail from PURCO from Spanish Forks UT which is a collection agency claiming I owe over $3000 for damage to the rental.
At this time of night no attendants were at the location to receive the vehicle. I left it in perfect condition and in the mail I received pictures of damage to the truck that obviously happened long after I had gone in the very tight parking lot probably. I got ZERO communication from DOLLAR- just a harassing letter and phone calls from the collections agency PURCO. Both American Express and my insurance company indicated off the record that they had heard of PURCO and were aware of this scam.
DOLLAR, you didn't have the decency to even reach out to me and went straight to a debt collector for damage I never caused- shame on you- BUYERS BEWARE they will rip you off soon. I never caused the damage and now PURCO are after me regardless. There is no EVIDENCE I caused it whatsoever but it does not seem to matter to them--Never rent from DOLLAR, customer service is terrible in a situation like this- look at rip off report and complaints dot com for all the bad things said about PURCO Spanish Fork in UT- as a consumer you have no rights and have no say- you have been warned!!

I rented a car through EZ Rental for two days in Seattle few weeks back. The rental rate was great and the car was good, no issues.
But today I get a letter from Purco Fleet Services, Inc on behalf of EZ Rental that there was damage to the car.
I returned the car to attandant with keys, he noted the mileage etc, I asked him if the car looked ok and he did not see any issues.
I also went around the car before returning it and there was not a single scratch.
I saw a few complaints on the internet.
I am wondering if other people had similar experiences, and what they did.
I am waiting for the actual claim information, photos, car rental history before deciding my next steps.
