Propel Financial Services Reviews

  • Feb 5, 2019

Propel Financial Services operates in Nevada and Texas. They primarily lend money to pay back property taxes, from what I can tell. I recently inherited a piece of property where there were back taxes owed. I called the county assessor's office to make some sort of arrangements and they suggested Propel Financial. Upon initially checking these guys out, they seemed on the up and up and had fairly reasonable rates. They were prompt and courteous on the phone and funded the loan quickly. This all changed after money changed hands and when the paperwork was signed!

After signing my loan, I discovered these asshats do not send out paper statements or provice any sort of coupon book to pay with. I attempted to log onto their website, which is difficult to navigate, and attempted to set up my account to make payments. This was a total excercise in futility. Instead I opted to send in payment by check via the mailing address on their website. This is where the trouble begins...

After three months or so, I notice my checks to Propel have gone uncashed. I phone them numerous times and can not get anyone on the phone. They have an option to leave your number for a call back, which I did; my phone calls remained unanswered. I called several more times and waited sometimes for 30 or 40 minutes at a time only to be disconnected! Finally, after a couple of weeks of phone calls, I spoke to a representative named Ricardo. He suggested that we set up an auto draft on my checking account to make the monthly payments. I thought that this would be a great idea, as I do not have the time to spend hours each month trying to pay these clowns. He also said that they would collect the past due payments as well as all future payments from my account. I was in agreement and the money was in my account for the so called past due payments which they claim they never received. It should be noted at this time that they do not take payments over the phone and Nevada customers like myself were unable to pay from their website, as per Ricardo.

Fast forward to Decemeber 7, 2018. I receive a letter in the mail from Greenspoon and Marder. I've never heard of these people, so of course I open the envelope to find out Propel hired this podunk law firm from Las Vegas to foreclose on my property! I immediately call the attorney to find out what is going on and I'm referred to some paralegal in Phoenix (but I called Las Vegas) by the name of Sara Jurecki. She explains to me that Propel has not been paid and they now want to foreclose on the property. Imagine that, getting a $350,000 piece of land for $7200. It was late in the day, and Ms. Jurecki suggested I call her on Monday morning, December 10 to make some sort of payment arrangement. Over the weekend, I checked my bank account and they never took dime one as per the auto draft agreement. The money was in my account so that was never an issue.

Monday morning, December 10, I phone Greenspoon and Marder to get in touch with Sara Jurecki. After numerous tries and unreturned phone calls from her, I finally get her on the phone. She has heard nothing from Propel despite numerous attempts to reach them! Several more phone calls throughout the day produce nothing, other than Ms. Jurecki stating that she is getting frustrated with Propel and their lack of communication. I myself tried to reach Propel and can not get a hold of them. Tuesday, December 11 and it's more of the same thing. Ms. Jurecki can not reach them, they do not answer the phone and halfway through the day, 12 pm CT they have a recording that their office is closed! What kind of company is this? Out of frustration and having exhausted all other avenues to communicate, I look them up on Facebook and message them through Facebook messenger. I immediately received what appears to be an automated response telling me to call their toll free number for assistance! What good does that do? They're closed, don't answer the phone and do not return phone calls. A little more poking around on the internet and reading reviews reveals that this is text book with this company and they're notorious for this kind of behavior. They charge people like me an outlandish amount of money to retain their property and if not paid, they foreclose.

December 12, Wednesday, I receive a phone call from a representative, Raquel Sanchez. I believe that the only reason I was phoned by her was my incessant calling and messages left to call. I explain my situation to her and she promises to look into things and call me back. I'm informed that not only do I owe them the past due payments, but I also owe them $1000 for the "breach letter" that Phillip Silvestri of Greenspoon and Marder sent me! WOW! $1000 for a letter that most other attorneys or financial institutions charge $100 - $200 for! Before she hhung up, she did tell me that she thought she could work out something and reduce the legal fees and late fees. After all, this was not my fault, I attempted to pay them, but these rotten lying bastards make it as hard as they can to pay them because they want your property, plain and simple.

At this point I deem it best to hire an attorney to try and mitigate circumstances with this absolute dirt bag of a company. It takes weeks to get to the point to get an address as to where to send the payment to! My attorney would call Mr. Silvestri, their attorney, early in the week, and ask for an update. He would get responses like, "I will let you know in a week" or "I should have an answer by next Tuesday." All this just to find out where and how to pay these dishonest crooks! We finally get an address to send payment to in mid January, but there is no negotiation on the BS $1000 worth of legal fees. It's either pay it or lose the property. They did, however, in all of their genorosity, waive the late fees on the account. I believe this to be iaround $100! I paid them in full with their legal fees as I did not want to lose the property. I thought it was over at this point, little did I know it wasn't...

On January 29, I receive a phone call from Raquel Sanchez from Propel informing me that they were going to provide payoff information to the noteholders on my property!! I never authorized them to discuss my account with anyone else nor did I authorize them to accept payment from anyone else but myself. The property was not in default at that time and they had no right legally to discuss this with anyone. Furthermore, they would not notify the noteholders of my property that the default they caused was cured. I was told that it was up to me to do so! They were so eager and zealous to notify the note holders of a default but yet I was basically told to screw myself when I asked them to notify them of it being cured and current. I insiisted to speak to a manager, and Jessica Hernandez did get on the line and speak to me. She basically reiterated what Ms. Sanchez had said. It was only after I leaned on her pretty hard that she said that she would "look into it legally." After a lot of arguing she did send an email stating that she would let the note holders know that the account was current.

All in all, Propel is a bottom of the barrel company to deal with. Chances are if you dealing with this crap company that you're short on money and need help, but do yourself a favor and skip this crap company. Dealing with them will cost you in the long run, and they're out to get you in anyway that they can. They say that they advanced the $1000 in legal fees and that I'm reimbursing them, but I highly doubt that; they are probably marking up the legal fees 100, 200% or more to make more money off of people that are most likely already struggling. If you are thinking of doing a loan with this shady operation, do yourself a favor and DON'T DO IT! YOU'LL BE SORRY YOU DID!!! You're better off trying to work out some sort of payment arrangement with the county, borrow from a friend or family member or anything BUT deal with Propel Financial Services. Caveat emptor!
