Plentyoffish Media Inc. Reviews

  • Nov 26, 2021

I've been on Plentyoffish.com for less than a month, having communicated primarily with men who listed engineer or doctor as their profession. I was stunned and delighted at how many profiles listed these professions.

Most of the text messages they sent me contained grammar, syntax, and punctuation errors. At first, I dismissed them as auto-correct errors which were not being caught because the man was not proofreading his messages… although I was surprised that engineers and doctors were not proofreading their work!

It was also obvious that most of these men spoke English as a second language so I asked where they were from originally. All identified a country in Europe.

And all were pushing me to get off the POF app, wanting to communicate by phone, WhatsApp, or Google Hangouts.

After talking with about a dozen men, I saw a clear pattern, became suspicious, and did a Google Image search on the men I was communicating with heavily. One image turned out to be a Colombian surgeon whose photos have been frequently used in fake dating profiles!

Then I did a thorough analysis of the language in the profiles. They all included the same kind of linguistic errors. And one of the most distinctive errors was the inability to use singulars and plurals correctly -- a tell-tale sign of native Chinese speakers.

Having worked extensively with engineers and doctors, I know a lot of terms and concepts in both fields, so I developed a sure-fire question to identify fake profiles. “Tell me something about your profession that most lay people would not know. “

Only 1 man tried to answer and it sounded like something from Wikipedia. So I went to the Wikipedia entry for that profession and sure enough, he had paraphrased the first sentence in Wikipedia! None of the other men responded. Not only did they ghost me, they blocked their profiles from receiving messages and in one case, he changed his photos to those of a different man!

After that, I scrutinized the profile of every man who messaged me. Lots of “engineers” and “doctors” whose highest level of education was “some high school” or “some college”!

After submitting over a dozen ‘fake profile’ reports to POF, I asked Customer Support for a refund because about 90% of the profiles I read were clearly fake. Of course, POF refused. "Fees are nonrefundable."

The thing is… I know people who met someone great through POF.

But right now, it is clearly being targeted by criminals. And it looks as though POF is doing little to stop it.

The supposed owners of the online site, has claimed that there is suspicious activity on my account and has locked me out. They then called me and tried getting me to hook my computer up to on of their programs through the web, so they can do "a full sweep and clean my account and get rid of and lock out the person who has taken control of my account and has full access to my computer. Stating that they are accessing my computer from New Mexico or somewhere in the vicinity. Stating that the perons has full control and access to my entire computer, all of my electronical devices, and all bank and financial information. Stating that if I don't give them (Plenty Of Fish) full access to my computer they will not let me back into my account and that my entire life will be hacked and destroyed.

They have also transferred this behavior over to their online help center (the same email address I have been conversing with since 2013 when having issues with the site - where I also learned that they use fake picture of women and names to communicate with people who sign up with their site.) They continue to keep me locked out of my account, and sending me the same copied and pasted responses everytime I email them to get them to let me in my account, which they continue to refuse to do. They have also changed my email address supposedly associated with my account. They also continue to call me from nondescript numbers, which I have blocked.

August 2019 I sent POF an email to cancel service. Also called. November 2019 noticed the monthly charge of $38.70. Immediately emailed and called again. No refund but they promised to cancel. July 17, 2020 noticed POF STILL charging my bank account.

Called, they once again agreed to cancel but still no refund, despite the fact I have an email chain addressing this issue. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

Plenty Of Fish (POF) is a dating that also charges a monthly fee if you wish to use their premium services.

The problem is that they have NO verification othat they use to verify an account other than email verification.

I have come across fraudulent profiles using stolen photos of women (the women I have come across complain about men doing the same thing) wanting to meet and date and possibly get married.

I have contacted the site administration about this problem and they have all but ignored this issue.

First they have done away with video conferencing and telephone conferencing and then they allow others to direct you to an off-site that they say is plenty of fish when it's not. Then they scam your information. More importantly you can never get ahold of customer service if you call their billing number it's constantly full and nobody answers the phone.

If you contact their CSR email nobody ever answers. When they scam your information they have no way of resetting your password so that you can delete your account it took several days before I could finally after making hours and hours of emails and calls to finally to get through to somebody that I could discontinue the account and then had to force a refund.

This is a total scam artists website and the company is overseas and cares less about you and you're dating they just want the money stay away

In the past, I've removed all of my images and deleted my account, POF put them all back up without my consent. I took it away from them and threatened them if it happened again.

In the past few days, they've been deleting all of my images, claiming I'm posting porn, which I haven't!

I was a member of plenty of fish dating site for a few years now and had the same user name and password all that time.

Last week I paid to become a premium member, then when I went to sign in it told me my password was wrong so I tried to change it but it wouldn't let me do I had to create a whole new profile and now I can't use what I paid for and can't get any answers from them at all.

This person using POF dating site. Sends you pictures of a guy name John Key Former Prime Minister of New Zealand. He goes after lonely women or widows.

He sweet talks you into thinking he is a lonley widow looking for love. After weeks of endless emails, texts and even phone calls, he tell you he is in love with you and want your address so he can fight in to meet you.

He claims he's from germany and now live in Lexington Ky. At the last minute he comes up with a story that he has to go to Turkey to settle his dead father's estate.

He even send you roses to your house. Then while he's setting his dad estate he is short some money and his credit card was stolen. BEWARE BEWARE I usually don't fall for scams and i am very cautious but this guys is very good at what he does. [continued below]....

I signed up with POF approx 8 months ago, initially I wanted to try it out with a lessor plan and was surprised when I'd seen the $79 taken from my account. I was so upset that I called in and tried canceling my plan but was told they don't offer refunds and that I would need to wait it out. I even canceled from my device as a backup and thought I was all set. Then the other day another $79 debit. I just called in to POF again, and was told the same thing, that they can't offer me a refund and that I didn't turn off the correct setting. NOT TRUE!!! Their rep said she could give me 1/2 the money back this time "best she could do". She then went on to say that my account would remain active for an additional 2 months before being cancelled. I told her as I did before, I want nothing more to do with POF and this time asked her to completely delete my profile. BEWARE!!! As a precaution I will be calling my bank and blocking them from withdrawing any further funds and suggest everyone reading this to do the same.

I signed up for a 2 month plan, got a notice on 5/4 that my account was going to expire, and I was cool with that. Then 5/6 comes around and I get a notification from paypal that 38.70 has been deducted from my account. I investigate and it is POF, and when I contact them they are not helpful at all, send me automated or pre-scripted messages, and totally don't care about or acknowledge my situation. Beware this company. They don't care about you at all.

They profess to have a free dating site then after you have spent precious time filling out a profile, suddenly they want a charge card number.

If it is "free" why would they need a credit card number.

I am really considering filing a lawsuit against Plenty of Fish for false advertising. I started my new account a few days ago, and I have been finding a bunch of fake accounts in my matches. It is getting very aggravating because I have a hard time meeting people, because I have Asperger's Syndrome. I thought maybe POF could help me find someone to connect with. I have a really hard time trusting people, and Plenty of fish is making my distrust grow. The site is supposed to be for DATING! But it's hard to even have a genuine connection because of scam bots. I literally want to sue them and see the scam site shut down.

Using fake picture to extort money from woman on plentyoffish and match.com

  • Nov 1, 2017

I signed up for Plenty of Fish online matchmaking service on a trial basis through Paypal. When they made their first full-price deduction 2 months ago I called and told them to cancel my subscription because nearly ALL of the people I was contacted by on their site were SCAMMERS trying to sweet talk me into sending them money or buying expensive items for them. That is why I cancelled the subscription to begin with. During that phone call I was told my cancellation was accepted and I would not be charged again. I have not visited the site since.

Lo and behold, I notice today they have AGAIN taken a $38.70 payment from my account. I called the company today and told the woman to give me my money back and the she said "Our memberships are non-refundable." When I told her I had already called 2 months ago and cancelled, she said it was MY fault I was charged again because I did not cancel the payment through Paypal.

I did not realize I had to cancel through Paypal - I thought calling a company directly and cancelling my subscription was enough to prevent further charges. If the subscription needed to be cancelled through Paypal, why wasn't I told that during my conversation with POF 2 months ago when I was assured no further charges would be made???

They said there was "no supervisor" to speak with and they gave me an email address to send my complaint to:

I sent the same complaint I just listed here and this was the response:

"Thanks for the email, and sorry to hear you didn't enjoy being on POF. Unfortunately, memberships are non-refundable, and as you did not cancel your subscription, it did renew. However, I can see your subscription has now been cancelled, so you will not be billed again. As memberships are non-refundable, I am unable to offer a refund to you.

I don't see a record of your email address having contacted us prior to today, or a phone call being received by our call center - however, I can assure you we see that you have successfully cancelled your subscription. If there is anything I can do to help you enjoy the remaining time on your subscription please let me know. And if not, I do wish you the very best. Regards,

Meghan"

So, I am basically being called a LIAR in addition to NOT being given a refund.

These people are CROOKS more interested in taking your money than helping you find a soulmate.

I have tried to contact customer service for this so called "dating site" but they ignored my emails. I believe that the website is violating my freedom of speech by blocking my password and or email address once they see that I am a American Male thst supports Our President Donald Trump. They keep sending me an error message saying that my email and or password are wrong for my profile(s) and then the website will NOT allow me to reset my password. Complete scam for trying to limit my freedom of speech and possibly force me into PAYING for their PREMIUM service. Problem is, even if I paid them money for their premium service they would probably keep blocking me because I am a Trump supporter in a sick world of mostly FAKE " dating / Scamming "

Plenty of Fish has almost none. POF misrepresents almost everything they do. On the internet, they claim to be a free site, then they charged me $79.92 twice to use the site. The first time, I joined their site and then canceled. I thought they refunded my money so I joined a second time and the charged me again. They knew that I paid them already and they ripped me off. So they are not a free site.

Then I get on the site and they have almost no women. They recycle women to make it look like they have a lot. In other words, when I reject someone, or they reject me, that same woman comes up in searches again. Their system for tracking your activity is poor. I contacted many women and their tracking system only showed about three. So I had no idea if I was contacting the same woman two or three times. That's embarrasing.

Then the women are on the wrong site so you get totally embarrased. I made a date with one woman who contacted me about 5 minutes before the date asking me questions about my profile. I said I wanted a woman who was uninhibited and she accused me of wanting a "hook up." She was a prude. Asking for uninhibited women is NOT looking for a hook up. I told her that we would date first and see if we hit it off. She ignored me. Then she read that I am non-religious and she demanded to know if I believed in God, and if I was a Christian. There is a site for Christians and so she was on the wrong site. So I told her it was none of her business and cut her off.

In about two or three weeks on the site, I did not get one date. The women just wanted to talk and every time I asked someone if they wanted to meet, they refused to answer. I wondered if they were real potential dates or just plants. And I had to reject many women who were not in my commuting area. I would say that 80% of the women they fed me we outside my area. I think that shows that they have very few women in their service. I even got women from states that were far away from mine.

So finally I canceled my service again and asked for a refund. It was then that I discovered that I paid them twice. When I signed off the second time I saw a notice that they do NOT give refunds. They didn't tell me this before I signed on or I would not have used their service. When I emailed them today, 6/28/2017, they sent me a canned response that said that they cannot answer emails. So I reported them to PayPal to see if they could help. They ususally do. I love PayPal.

But if anyone uses this service, CAVEAT EMPTOR. Let the buyer beware.

This picture reappeared on the 9 oct. 2013, 31 march 2015 and now. This men pretend to live in Montreal Quebec and Sgt. Maj. POF upgrades every 3 months but does not notify customers prior to upgrade. When my upgrade date came up, I contacted POF on the day of the upgrade to cancel my membership and request a refund. The charge is for 3 months of upcoming service. I was told no refund would be given and I was going to be forced to pay for 3 months of future service that I would not use and did not want. This is a scam. No one should be forced to pay for a service not yet received and not wanted. POF will not talk to you over the phone and no matter how many emails you send, they will only respond with an automated denial form email letter. Beware of any dealings with this company!

Met Paul Gonzales on Plenty of Fish online dating site. His username is Talkingfitness. He claims to be 42 y/o, used to work for LA Fitness and has a 7 y/o son. He messages you on POF.com and is very charming and complimentary. He then invites you to meet him at a nice restaurant for dinner. He orders $100 worth of food and beverages and then excused himself to make a call and never returns. The woman is left with $165-$200 dinner bill. He then blocks you from contacting him via POF and on his cell phone .

Plenty of Fish has deleted my profile several times without telling me why. When pressed for a reason, I was told "we don't have to give you a reason". This is basically violating my civil rights by punishing me for something they won't even accuse me of.

On Sept. 10th I signed up with "Plenty of Fish", a world wide dating site. Although they have a free option I chose to use the upgrade, which provides direct response to potential matches.

I began immediately using the service and made several contacts for future potential match dates and about four actual scheduled dates to meet. However, on Sept 12th I was notified a friend I was messaging that a male had replaced my photo's with his, changed my name to his, my location address, to his, (which was in a far away country), My job to his, my income to his, my e-mail to his and had already contacted well over 100 women and commincated as though it was his profile.

I quickly contacted with Plently of Fish via e-mail and politly asked for their help from their "customer care". i received an automated message they would get back to me within 48 hours or more.

I went back to my account and was able to log in using my password and saw the other person had changed more information. I also was notified by three peole I already knew, that they had recieved messages from the strange person asking for phone numbers addresses and more, telling them that he misplaced it. They provided the informatioin thinking it was me.

I sent two more very polite messages to Plenty of Fish "Customer Care" and to this date have never received any response at all. I now can no longer access my account as the person changed the pass word and as of a couple of hours ago, found I do not even have an account, as apparently the person changed the user name as well.

I have not recieved any contact from Plenty of Fish. The person now has my name, address, phone number, credit card number (now changed) my photo's e-mail addresses and any other information in my account. This in addtion to information he gleemed from my contacts.

My integrity, character and identity is now questionable at best and Plenty of Fish allowed someone access to my information via poor, flawed or no security system, thus creating extreme emotional stress not only for me but for my contacts as well. One would think the change of address from northern California to New Zeland would pop up a red flag on even a novice's computer program. Plenty of Fish has done nothing to assist in the ID theft and I have paid out membership for something I cannot even access due to their neglegence and unprofessional business practices.
