Let me begin by saying that when someone advises you to FIND A LAWYER, that job is easier SAID then DONE.
Years in the past, most lawyers were seasoned, actually interested in your case, and treated you right - for the most part. Smaller injury cases - where the victim suffers pain, misery and financial loss, were taken on by attorneys in the past years, with some adequate compensation for the victim.
Nowadays, it is difficult to find a lawyer for litigation, as they are only seeking major injury cases where the person is confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his or her life. Such attorneys will ignore you if your injury is not catastrophic and lasting for the rest of your life.
Thus, you are unlikely to get compensated, while the doctor or hospital goes along their Merry Way of Not Having to Answer For their Negligence. I guess we can blame TORT REFORM for some of this. However my case is different - but just as upsetting.
I had a Medical Malpractice case against a Wyoming neurologist and his business from December, 2021 and which continued through June, 2022. Actually, the case bothers me to this very day. This doctor greatly injured my neck by mis-using Botox. The Botox was to be a trigger point injection in my neck to reduce the swelling and pain caused by muscle spasms. However, this doctor greatly mis-used this drug and caused great pain and more injury and expense to me.
I was not able to lift my head due to the mis use of Botox by the neurologist. My neck muscles were weakened. I could not eat much and even fell down the stairs because I was losing my balance.
I did have an Emergeny Room Visit in early Janaury, 2022.
I called several lawyers, some referred to me by the Wyoming State Bar, and the ususal excuses I got ranged from Conflict of Interest, No Time, Too Busy, Does Not Do that Kind of Law, Not Enough Money, etc.
I happened upon the Law firm of Jeremy Hugus of Platte Injury Law in Casper, Wyoming. He was referred to me by some other attorney.
When I called his office in December, 2021 and spoke to the Office Manager, Judy ( I believe her name was). She was very nice, at the time, and seemed very interested. She asked me to keep a DAILY DIARY of each dayand what happened. She advised me to do whatever I could medically to get myself better.
She said that attorney, Jeremy Hugus, was very busy with an upcoming court case and not able to speak to me now, but will soon.
AS IT TURNED OUT, THIS ATTORNEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK AND HIS OFFICE KEPT ME "ON A STRING FOR OVER 9 MONTHS." More on that later.
To make a long story shorter, I kept up the diary. I tried getting the neurologist who injured me to settle the case with me, but they - as ususal - denied any wrong doing and seemed upset WITH ME for daring to ask for justice and financial compensation.
Well, I tried accupuncture, physical therapy, X rays, CT scans, MRI, pain medicines and even seeing 2 other doctors for help, but nothing worked.
All this cost ME was money and time. Medicare paid its share. However, in truth, the lawyer should have made the offending doctor pay for this and justice and compensation for expenses and pain and suffering to me.
THIS DID NOT HAPPEN.
I kept calling the Platte Injury Law at least 2 times per month, trying to give updates on my case and asking when the lawyer, Jeremy Hugus, would speak to me about my case.
All I ever got, from anyone who answered the phone is more of the same TALK. The lawyer is very busy with other cases and the big court trial. No time for little old me!
Months passed with the same results. By this time, Judy, the Office Manager, had left the firm.
By May, 2022, I was completely disgusted and running out of money and still in pain. I was not able to lift my head and felt that the neurologist was getting away with what he did to me.
I called the office of Plate Injury Law and left a message that I was SICK AND TIRED OF BEING IGNORED.
I think, I even sent an e-mail to this office.
Lo and Behold, sometime in early June, 2022, I get a phone call from a male lawyer saying he now works for the Platte Injury Law.
I GUESS HE FOUND MY CASE LYING IN A "DEAD FISH FILE" ON THE FLOOR SOMEWHERE. Well he called me and told me that he found my case and was going over it.
He admitted that 9 plus months is too long for a law firm to decide if they want my case or not. He made the excuse (again) of how busy the lawyer was and that they were short one lawyer.
He said that my BOTOX CASE was NOT LIFE LONG AND CATASTROPHIC. I guess it does not matter to him that I did suffer and that the neurologist was clearly at fault for not following FDA requirements, not informing me of side effects and mis-using the drug.
IN THE END, ALL HE COULD SAY IS "I'M SORRY." As if this "sorry" is supposed to make everything all right.
I did put my trust in this Plate Injury Law Firm and they should have treated me better and took my case, even if it was just for a fair settlement out of court.
The point here is that this Law Firm failed to handle my case and lead me on a Wild Goose Chase with nothing to show for it but misery, pain and financial loss.
The neurologist got away with something he never should have.
Complaints I made to Medicare and Medical Boards went no where - all because of the Protection Racquets formed by Doctors who will never testify against another docotr and State agencies who take complaints, but really do not care about the people.
Finally, I do wish I could have won my case, and might well have if this law firm had not screwed me around.
I wish I could have given this Platte Injury Law Firm a Great Review, but the FACTS told here SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES and the REVIEW IS NEGATIVE, NOT EVEN 1 STAR.
To everyone reading this out there, make sure to find a really good law firm to handle your case; OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT END UP LIKE ME.
Signed,
