Plano Marine Reviews

  • Aug 23, 2017

Our Boat was damaged with many thousands of dollars of damage while it was at this place of business for an unrelated repair. We took our 2015 Chaparral vortex 223 VRX for service on July 5th to Plano Marine in Plano Texas. The boat had a loss of power, check engine codes, pulling to the right. Also we asked to have the sea deck on the back looked into warranty replacement because it was lifting and one piece fell off. July 26th 3 weeks after we dropped it off we call to find out the status. We were told the boat hasn't been touched yet but it will soon. August 2nd week 4 we call for an update. We're told the boat was taken 4 times for lake testing and the technicians can not diagnose the problem but state that they recognize that there is a problem. Shortly after on that same day we receive a call from a "lead technician" stating that the problem was simply the wear ring and all issues are related to the worn and damaged wear ring in the starboard motor.

They ask for permission to order the not stocked part and confirm the price of the repair of approximately $500 since this isn't a warranty issue which we agreed on that day August 2nd. August 9th week 5 we call again for an update since it was stated this was a quick and simple repair when the not stocked and now ordered part shows up. We are told the part wasn't ordered the week prior and that they don't have it yet. August 16th week 6 we call and the boat is finally ready. They state the boat is being lake tested and will let us know when its finished. We call again two days later August 18th and they state its finished and that "we were just about to call you". Since it was already late afternoon we decide to pay for the repairs by card over the phone and pick the boat up after hours very shortly after they close. We showed up to find the boat to be heavily damaged. Both pvc trailer guides were broken and one section was left inside the boat. It appears when they took it out for the 4 lake tests they ran over the broken trailer guide brackets which then scratched the boat in numerous places. They never bothered to tell us anything about it and even tried to "fix" a few of the gouges by using a black marker even over the green graphics. They also left grease marks on the outside of the boat and on several of the white seats. Our boat has 38 hours, is kept in a covered slip year round, never trailered except to get serviced and always in immaculate condition. We showed up the next morning hoping for answers and some resemblance of respect. Yes we were upset and frustrated but that was only made worse when we were met with rude degrading comments and blame towards us. I am disgusted by the fact that my wife was talked to in such a derogatory manner by the "owner" Benny Ray and service writer Tommy Williams. I can't believe they are even allowed to be in the presence of customers when the employees are allowed to continually cuss and talk down to a woman this way. Eventually after having to prove to them that the boat wasn't left to them in that condition they admitted to knowing about the damage prior to that day and the blame was passed on to the the lead mechanic Mark Rollin. Since Mark Rollin was working that day the blame for the damage was then passed on to the mechanic trainee Tanner Douthit since he was off.
