My 91 year old mother is in an assisted living. We have been using Pharmerica for convenience at the nursing home but will discontinue using them. My mother went to the skin doctor to have some places looked at on her face. They were mild types of skin cancer. The doctor prescirbed fluorouracil 0.5'% cream. With Pharmerica, we give the prescription to the assisted living and then they give it to Pharmerica and we are billed later. Pharmerica said that United Health care denied the claim but by law they had to fill the prescription if it is given to them. If we went to Walgreens and they told me the prescription was going to be 1,527.84 I definitely would not have taken it. But you have no way of knowing what the bill is until you get it in the mail rom Pharmerica because you don't pay up front, you are billed later. Got the total run around from Pharmerica. I called up United Health Care and was told they were going to put their top Pharmacy person on the case because it looked like to them that Pharmerica was violating Medicare laws. I did my own research at Good RX and found out that you could get this same prescription at Walmart for 29.00 and the highest is Kmart for 90.00. And they are billing my mother who only gets 1,000 a month and has no savings for 1,527.84? My next complaint is to the attorney general and maybe the department of insurance. Recently Pharmerica has had to pay millions in dollars for fraud. I am determined to do something about this. Definitely not paying that bill!
