I contacted Mark Baumbach on craigslist and he came to my home 3/11/21 to give an estimate to have ALL trees, hedges and bushes trimmed around my property. We walked around the property and I explained to him multiple times that I wanted ALL small trees around the property trimmed back. I also made sure he knew I wanted him to clean up when finished. Most of the trees were my neighbors which were growing on to my property, but two were mine and was discussed during the walk-thru. I was quoted $650 if I paid in cash for him to do the job. This was excessive but I was willing to pay it for quick and quality work.
Mark sent SOMEONE ELSE to my home to do the work 4/7/21. As a single mother, I was concerned that someone unfamiliar and unexpected was at my front door. There was no communication. This person proceeded to trim the trees. Mark arrived on-site toward the end, did a minor "trim" on the hedges and started to clean up. I asked him to take another look because it was lopsided and not even across the top as we discussed during the walk-thru, he said he could not. He also did not cut a small tree in the back nor trim bushes as discussed in the walk thru. He said he did extra work that he did not anticipate even though he looked at the job first to provide the estimate. I paid him $650 in cash (yeah, stupid me) and asked for a receipt. He provided a hand-written peice of notebook paper as my receipt, very unprofessional set up.
I reached out multiple times for him to return and finish the work which he agreed to do (in writing).
I reached out one final time and he finally showed up 5/22/21 aggressive and argumentive and tried to extort an extra $100 in order to finish the work. He must have thought I was a easy mark, but I refused to pay him more and he told me to find someone else to finish his job and left.
While this person has some positive reviews online (not sure if they are real), I highly recommend avoiding this company. I now have to file complaints with the state and local magistrate and still find someone else to finish what he started. In hindsight, I wish I never contacted this loser company, there were so many red flags. This is your typical scam artist contractor looking to make a quick buck off the backs of hard-working honest people.
If you are considering hiring him, get your estimate in writing, do not pay until the job is finished and use a credit card for added protection. Better yet, just avoid him or else you may find yourself in a similar position as me.
