My husband and I's car got hit while parked. A random tow truck came around and offered to tow us (which we later found out is illegal). They gave us a few options and said they were independent and we chose the closest one ( which ended up being the shop they actually work for and they lied to us ). We later realized we had been scammed. We chose to withdraw our insurance claim and go to a different place. They refused to give us the car back. This began on June 2 when car was hit. We attempted to talk to owner and were pawned off on 3 different people who each passed us on to someone else. We then realized we were in trouble. We went to the shop with cops on a Saturday (about a week and a half after leaving voicemails and voicemails) during working hours. The workers there all refused to know English and that none of them were employees (yet we have video of all of them working and that the shop was open. One gentleman in particular who we have come to know as one of the owners "Al" refused to cooperate with cops and we were at a stand still. He lied to Cops and said he did Not work there. That next working day(Monday) , we called the shop again and were directed to someone by the name of "Rick" who claimed he was the supervisor. I have the whole phone conversation recorded on video. He refused to give us car back unless we paid $65 a day for storage, despite having a written contract for $25. He hung up phone. We went to police again and were told to pay the money and then take them to court. We went to body shop and agreed to pay the $65 a day (for a total of 18 days which totaled $1200). They threatened us and told us that since we had cops come they were gonna give us hell and that they now wanted $2600 (for what they say is tow, storage, dismantling the car and other) mind you we never gave them Permission to touch or repair car. Our contract was only to process an insurance claim. We have the paper contract. This whole interaction I recorded on my phone. We asked for an itemized bill to figure out how they were coming up with $2700; which we were responded with "shops closed" the man who responded turned out to be the tow guy. We were left in the shop alone as they all Stood outside and refused to talk to us. We agreed that we would pay the $2700 (just to get car out because we don't know where it is anymore). But they refuse to take any money yet will not give us our car back. They refuse to show us the car or even let us get our personal property out of the case.
