I scheduled their service for a very simple valve exchange under my bathroom sink. The hot water valve just needed to exchanged for a new one. This takes no more than 15 minutes by a reasonable plumber. This required for the water to be shut off momentarily So I requested this to the building manager who said it was going to be shut off at 10 AM, Hence I scheduled the service at that time.
The plumber showed up at 8 AM, which I thought was odd and requested for him to come back at the said time window, which was very clear during scheduling. He came back, late of course. He took Two hours to finish a 15 minute job (I have film proof of him killing time and playing on his phone).
After this, he returned with an invoice of almost 1000 dollars (again, for a job that should take 15 minutes and a part that costs no more than 20 dollars in a hardware store). I rebutted the invoice and requested receipts for the parts and the exact time break down. Both of which he refused.
I spoke to a so called Greg, apparently the manager, by phone stating the situation. With a very condescending tone, Greg explained he is also charging for the two hours the plumber "had to wait" to start the job. As if it was my problem that the plumber just decided to show up early and clock in a couple of extra hours work-free.
After much arguing back and forth, Greg decided to scratch the extra time and charged us for the two hours (375 dollars for the first hour, 250 dolars for each subsequent hour) plus parts. Greg still refused to produce any receipts for parts stating "we simply don't do that". Which is quite convenient. With Taxes and "service fee" (the oddacity of demanding a mandatory tip for this guy), it still came up to nearly 800 dollars, for a job that I can almost guarantee is less than 100 dollars.
My wife is sick and we needed the water service, so I decided to give into their unreasonable demands and paid for the adjusted fee.
Pelham plumbing is unprofessional and shady at least, if not down right criminal. I can almost guarantee these folks clock in several work-free hours purposely since they time their location through GPS. Bigger clients such as businesses are probably being ripped off on a constant basis by these people, and it's harder to catch.
