Pay less car rental added an automatic $150 fuel surcharge onto our rental 20 minutes after we return the car which was absolutely filled with gas, and which an attendant confirmed with her computer before we completed the return.

We called the company and they requested we send a photocopy of the fuel receipt from our most recent fill up. We did so immediately and then were told that they could not find our account. We emailed a copy of our rental agreement and heard nothing back. After numerous emails and phone calls a refund suddenly appeared on our bank statement.

It is clear that Payless automatically adds a fuel surcharge in hopes that people will not be able to provide documentation, despite the fact that they check to make sure the car is full upon return.

During my recent trip to the US in August/September 2018 I rented a car from Payless (through a vacation broker Viajemos.com) twice on August 22 and August 31, 2018. I picked the car up and returned it at Orlando International Airport.

Since I had had problems with car rentals before (surprise charges), I chose a package that had absolutely everything included to avoid surprise charges afterwards, including insurance and road assistance. I have the vouchers as evidence of this.

I had prepaid the rental but during the month of September I received three additioinal charges in my credit card, for US$ 96.18, US$ 127.65 and US$ 98.24. A small part of these charges are Ok because I did acquire a tank of gas for only one of the rentals (which couldn't have been more than US$ 30) and I rented the toll gadgets (sunpass/e-pass) in both rentals. However, I did not purchase anything else because I had everything else I needed.

When I asked the vacation broker viajala.com about the charges they explained that it was because of road assistance I had purchased; not the one I already had but another, more complete road assistance. I repeat... I was not offered or accepted this.

Do not, and I repeat Do not ever use this rental service. They call themselves payless,. But you end up paying more. First off the rental was only $600+ for 3 weeks, But the insurance costs came to over $1100, for a total of $1700.. I also reserved a Nissan Sentra, and got a Hyundai Accent. Now I see they are trying to charge me for $16.55 in toll fees which I'm gonna dispute on my credit card since I paid $4.50 to the Kansas Turnpike Authority. They had a Texas Tag reader on the car, and KTA still read the tag reader. You guys suck, and I'll never use your rental service again.

I reserved a rental car online for quoted 209.81 for pick up and drop off at Orlando Intl. airport. my flight was delayed and it was almost midnight when I picked up my reserved car. I told the attendant when I picked up the car I did not want any extras or optional services. I was very clear about this. I was handed a barely legible contract and asked to sign in 5 circled locations. The next day at my destination in Melbourne Beach I noticed on my carbon copy they had charged me 5.99/day for some sort of internet/radio service a total of 53.91 + tax. After repeated calls to payless (I was never able to contact anyone at the airport) I was told to drive the car back to Orlando Airport 75 miles, and have them disconnect the service. I told them that was not possible I needed the car for a function to attend and called my credit card which told me to contact them when the charge was posted. My credit company removed the charge and gave me 53.91 (I ate the tax). Payless no keeps sending me threatening credit notices. I have told them they need to contact my credit card company. The last one told me I would lose my rental privileges. Like I would rent from them again. Dolores W. Livingston Manor NY

I rented a car from Payless Car Rentals(Avis subsidiary) in Salt Lake City airport to use it during my outdoor trip across Utah's National parks.

When I returned it back a week later everything was OK, a member of their staff gave me a final receipt and said nothing. A couple of weeks later I was charged $250 fee for excessive soilage.

I admit that car needed vacuuming due to some dust/soil that got in after my hikes. But that's it. No food stains, no smoking odor(I do not smoke at all), no animals hair whatsoever. Basically, simple car wash with interiour cleaning that costs about $14-18 everywhere would do the perfect job. That's what they have to do anywhere after each rental.

I tried to reach their customer service but they gave me a standart answer.

Please, advice what should I do.

I entered my information online and was quoted $163 a week for a Nissan Versa. I tried to call the office bc I had a few questions and if they would come pick me up bc I was 3 miles from the office. I called for a half hour never got a person or even an answering machine. I show up Saturday about 1pm in the afternoon the place is packed and they have only 1 employee checking people in. Red flags right there. I ended up needing the car for an extra week so I tried to call the office and again, no answer, no answering machine. So when I get there the following Saturday around noon it's packed with only 1 person working. When I get up to the front the young man tells me there was no need to come in and I could have done this over the phone!!! I had the car for 2 weeks and a day. When I walked out of the building my bill was $455. I did use their ezpass and went through 1 day of tolls which was $24.

So I expected my bill to be alittle higher than the original quote. I checked my credit card the next day and they had charged me $671! I immediately called them and it took them 3 days to get me an itemized receipt. Basically F**k this company. They are cheats and will swindle you. Don't delete your quote emails!

I reserved a car at Payless Rental Car through Hotwire with a weekly charge total of $196.00, but the total estimated charges were over $600. I didn't realize this until the next day, so I returned the car after having it a bit over 48 hours. Upon return, I was informed that my charge would be $442 for those two days. They couldn't print me an itemized receipt because their printer was broken. I asked them why it was so much and they pointed to where they had charged me to upgrade to a luxury vehicle (without telling me - and it wasn't really a luxury vehicle, it was a Mazda 5), and for a Loss Damage Waiver, but the total still didn't make sense. They said they would email me the receipt. I recieved the emailed version, and apparently I was charged for a full week even though I returned it two days later.

On July 13, 2016, I rented a car from Payless Car rental at Ft. Lauderdale Airport. I was greeted at the counter, where I was told that I did not have rental insurance, although I showed it from Expedia. An additional charge was added to my contract.

i was given a Toyota Camry, and drove to my destination an hour and 45 minutes away. The car was then parked at my hotel. The next morning, the tire pressure light was on. I went to three different service stations for air. It was pulling to the right, and the light would not go off. Having to drive back, and afraid to drive the interstate with a bad tire, I called road service. They agreed to have a new vehicle towed to me. This is after wanting me to drive on a bad tire to Ft. Myers.

The new car was towed to me a few hours later. It was a Nissan Versa. After spending several hours and missing dinner Reservations. I decided to get takeout, and drove literally three blocks. The car stalled while driving in the middle of an intersection. I almost got hit by several vehicles. I got it started, and went immediately back to the hotel.

i began calling the Ft. Lauderdale location, as well as Ft. Myers. The manager promised to take care of the problem. I was promised a callback. I had to call several times, and was left on hold for 40 minutes plus, each time. It is saved on my cell phone. No answer or callback.

I called Ct. Myers, and the person was very nice. He claimed he did get a call from the manager, but was waiting for approval. This was half hour before he closed. They then did not answer either. I had to leave at 3 am for my flight.

i again called roadside customer assistance, and got a representative who also tried calling, but was left on hold. He spoke to his supervisor, who agreed after several hours to have the nissan towed back to storage, and I should take a taxi to ft Lauderdale from Naples. I was promised to be reimbursed when I got to Philadelphia, which was 221.00.

I got home, and they said we are a franchise, and cannot reimburse. I called Payless again, and am still waiting for a response, two weeks later. I am very disappointed.

We rented a car from Payless Car Rental in Augusta, Ga Airport Location. It was urgent, my husband needed to get home. This car was not serviced in between rentals. It had no windshield wiper fluid, one wiper blade didn't work and the car was so nasty. The snell gave my husband a soar throat. It was like someone had smoked inside and then left the window down, it got wet and dried that way. Try to imagine smelling that for 5 long hours each way. We contacted the company and I received an email say they were sorry. That is it. I was a Travel Agent for most of my working life and I would not recommend this company to anyone. I worked for Budget while in school to be an agent and I can tell you that they would have contacted by phone the client and asked what they could do to make it right. This company could care less how you feel, it's all about the money. As a Travel professional, I suggest you not rent from them or at the very least Check out the vehicle completely front to back inside and out to be sure everything works properly before you sign or drive off the lot with a rental from this company. Just don't rent is my suggestion from Payless. You will regret it!!

Nothing they say or put in the contract is what happens in reality. They told us they would take a deposit now and refund upon return of the car. Nope. Instead of $200 deposit, they took $444.23. Then one charge after another started appearing on my statement. Customer service says all charges are appropriate even though they don't appear on the invoice. Then they told me that deposit refunds take 30+ days. So what started off being a $227 weekly rental has cost me over $900 and customer service tells me to kick rocks.

I went to the car rental counter to work something out and he was even less pleasant than the call center. I used twitter to reach out to their social media team but they basically accused me of not working with the customer service people.

Now that I've been burned, I started checking into Paylesscar.com and discovered there is a huge online wave of discontent I wish I had seen before I used Payless. Complaints go back to 2011, and I've reached out to others who've been burned. Nobody ever got resolution.

Basically, it boils down to this: Payless has been fraudulent for years and nobody is holding them accountable.
