Patrick immediately wanted to talk via telephone. I contacted him the next day and he told me how beautiful I was and that his family was coming in to Oklahoma to celebrate his dad's birthday who happens to be a pentecostal pastor and that his mom had died when he was 11 which later turned to 13 (red flag) and his sister DeEdria and stepsister Keonna. He mentioned he had a 5 year old daughter Anna who lost her mom at the age of 2. He was sending me pictures throughout the weekend keeping me updated of all the details. Shortly after talking to him, he started sending me long emails professing his love for me. I thought that was very strange for a guy to feel this way so fast especially since we haven't met. My guards were up and I started to tread lightly. My friends immediately realized he was a scammer, but I decided to give him a lenghtier rope to see how far it would go. He stayed in touch and was so attentive that I felt like this was something different, but too fast paced.
He promised to visit on the 9th of March and soon he said he had to go to the business bid in the UK. Next thing I knew his company won and was given $12,000 dollars and the other companies $3,000 each. He had to fly out to Benin, Nigeria to get the work completed.
He soon told me that the work would be completed by Wednesday and he wanted to know if he could come THurday the 8th instead of Friday the 9th. He made reservations with the Comfort Inn and forwarded me this confirmation. Being a traveler myself I knew that he could always cancel if he gave 24 hour notice. so I was not moved by the confirmation. I was waiting for him to send me his ticket purchase, but instead, he send me a ticket quote. In the process he explained how the banking system in Africa is affecting him from getting to his funds. He stated that a friend of his was going to send him $600 hundred and if I could send him $500. A fool and his money are soon parted and let me tell you I ain't no fool. I told him if I could use my card ( to see how far his scam would go) he said the ticket agent told him the online platforms are not available but I could send it via Western Union (BIG RED FLAG). Here is the wiring information he gave:
First Name-------Peter
Last Name---------Afolabi
Address----British Airways. Plot 3/5, Andrew Abayomi Drive, L/Island, Lagos
City------Lagos
State-----Lagos
Country------Nigeria
Zip Code------23401
Amout------$500
I told him that looks like it came straight out of a scam book. He tried to act hurt and lay on the guilt and I cursed his a*s out!
