I leased my truck to Panther 2 back in the 1990's and things were fine at first, got plenty of miles with no problem. But the problems started when I got my frist check from Panther, in the amount of $25.00. Panther 2 like other trucking companies said they paid every week and every company I worked for did pay every week like clock work. But Panther on the other hand did not pay their O/Os for the first six weeks after they started. Panther would give the excuse they were working on my pay roll and would be paid next week.
Well when that first check came in 6 weeks later it was for a whooping $25 as I said before. Panther 2 would sit on all funds for the 6 week period then in one swoop would deducted 6 weeks of fuel, permits, road taxes and other charges. But if can get past 6 weeks with no pay, then they paid weekly as they said. I was with Panther for about a year and a half, no tickets, no accidents, never late and never turned down a load. But the day did come that broke the camels back so to speak.
Panther gave me a hot load to N.C which i delivered on time and here is where the problem started. Panther 2 then sent me into S.C to pick up a load going back to Michigan. I get to the pickup and Panther says the load cancelled, no they never sent me a message on Qualcomm. They then had a load for me in Ga, then mid Fla, then in Miami. All turned out to nothing. Panther 2 then told me a load about 200 miles north of Miami. Well as you probably suspect Panther 2 kept saying they had a load and I wound up in North Georgia, again no load.
At that point I disconnected Qualcomm and started dead heading home. I North Kentucky i stopped for fuel, plugged Qualcomm back in and had a message from Panther 2 " Call us!! Urgent!!" So I called them and now they said they had a hot load in Neb they needed me to pick up, all the milaege was mine, no drop and swap like normal long hauls. I asked dispatch if i would be paid for it next week " We cannot promise that". So in others words start from the beginning, 6 weeks again with no pay check and then a check for under $100.
I reminded Panther 2 they just dead headed me all over the East coast and they do not pay dead head. " PLEASE GET THIS LOAD FOR US!!! YOUR THE ONLY DRIVER CLOSE TO IT AND WE'LL LOSE IT." yes they were begging after what they just did. Panther 2 scams their drivers every chance they get.
