Palm Beach Powder Coating Reviews

  • Aug 10, 2019

The owner will talk a friendly game to get you in the door, over promise and over price. In addition to powdercoat my motorcycle frame, they offered to do some light metal work for me, bringing the price to almost double what the powdercoat job would have been from a local reputable powercoater. The receptionist (who acts even more clueless than he actually is) told me it would be about a week to get the job done.

On week three I called, receptionist picked up, said he had to ask the owner and would call back, of course no call back. Waited to week four, called back, got the owner to informed me that no work had actually been done at all to my frame but his metal guy was going to start doing some grinding soon and to call back a week later and expect it to be finished. Called on week 5, admitted to me that still nothing was done, told me that because of the metal work it was going to take 3 to 4 weeks, but hello?

Its week 5 now! Threatened to come and pick up the frame, then agreed that it would be acceptable if they just powdercoated it without doing the metal work and I would pick it up on Tuesday of the following week. When I arrived I found absolutely no metal work completed aside from a huge glob of weld that he applied to a thin spot I wanted him to work on (he was also supposed to fill in some other areas of poorer welds it had but did none of that, and the areas he said were "ground down" still had massive pin holes in them. They painted right over the huge glob of weld!!! It looks rediculous.

Ok Ok, Aside from how long it took, and the "metal work" performed and/or not performed, the powdercoating itself is absolutely amatuer and horrible. Regardless of how bad some of the welds looked on the frame, the metal was all new with no corrosion and powdercoating it should not have been a problem. There are pin holes all over the frame, with some huge concentrated patches on areas of flat, brand new metal.

The coat they applied was a basecoat/overcoat and there are runs in the undercoat. Honestly if powdercoating was my business, I would be ashamed to let this walk out of my shop. When confronted about this both the owner and the receptionist seemed to lose the ability to speak english. Refused to give me a refund and sent me on my way. Only when I threatened to write reviews and contact the BBB did he agree to a refund after some childish email exchanges with him, however when I went to pick up my refund of course the owner wasn't there and the receptionist sat there clueless.

It's a long drive and I have wasted enough time with this business. The feeling I got of checking the reviews after dropping my frame off in July had been proven true, don't let this happen to you. Have checked the color that ended up on my frame with a color swatch from the company who will redo it and it is very far from the sample color. I know some variances can happen but its way off.

In summary I was overpromised, charged almost double what it should have for what they ended up actually doing and delivered a far subpar product/service by an extremely unprofessional businessman who shows absolutely no pride in his work.
