I live in Keller and an individual knocked on my door stating he was in the area and offered me a "free roof inspection". He was a young man apparently looking for work so I let him do his inspection. I was eager to hear what he had to say about my roof when he was finished looking at it (as I had another company look at it just one month prior). When he was done he came down off my roof and told me that I need a new roof. This had me very confused as I just mentioned that another company just looked at it and they claimed - roof was in good shape. At this point my main questions to my self are, who is this company, who is this individual and since I'm out of work at the moment how much is this going to cost me? I know before I moved to Keller we owned a home about half the size of this one and still paid $1246 out of pocket for my deductible. When my question to Mr. Chapman came up about my deductible, he stated "don't worry about it, I'll put a yard sign in your yard and you get a free roof".
Let's be honest, we all know nothing in this world is free. I felt uncomfortable and explained I'll be in touch with him. When Mr. Chapman left my home I did what any logical person would do and began googling Outdoor Unique. The only thing I could find on this company after so much digging was they are a company out of Roanoke - which is just north of me then I found Outdoor Unique in Trophy Club which is just north of Roanoke. So I dug into the company more and found out that this company doesn't even have a business location, they're using a gmail for email and in fact the only address I could find is 2743 Chatswood Drive Trophy Club, TX 76262. Another red flag went up and I thought I'm going to call a local roofing company with a business address.
I ended up calling a company not far from my home and that had great bbb and google reviews. The very nice lady I spoke with sent an individual over to do an inspection on my roof. When this gentleman arrived and finished his inspection he informed me of the same thing the first company did, which was there is not enough damage to file a claim. I then was obviously very curious about Outdoors Unique inspection and how they found damage but everyone else didn't. I went on asking more questions to the gentleman that was sent to my home about my deductible, if things have changed since 13 years ago when I had my previous home roofed and he did in fact inform me that it is very illegal and is fraudulent not pay my deductible and I could go to jail for it. The gentleman advised me to contact The Texas Department of Insurance, so that's what I'm doing next.
So now that I fully understand the ins and outs, I felt that I have to post something on the web about this company. No address on their website and I could potentially go to jail for doing business with them? You heard right. I don't have a problem paying my deductible when the time is right for me financially as nothing in this world is free. Buyers beware, you have been warned.
