I have been a customer of this establishement for over 10 years. They did an oil change and tire rotation. With that service comes a free basic wash. Additionally, I gave them 1 quart of Lucas Oil to put into the engine as I always do. The Lucas Oil costs me $17 plus NYS tax. I drove to PA the next day and on our way back the engine light came on that the car was down 1.5 quarts of oil so I proceeded to the nearest facility which happened to be a Chevy dealer. They inspected the vehicle and we saw oil all over the bottom of the car and leaking from the engine. It turned out to be what appears to be negligence as the oil filter either wasnt installed properly or inspected properly for faulty parts but Im no mechanic but my car was in frightening shape and we had a long ride ahead of us. Btw- they charged me $25 extra for the filter they installed because he said it was OEM. I was told by the manager there that it was $5 extra and when I got the bill it was $25 extra for the oil filter. The Chevy dealer referred me to the VW dealer right up the road. I have documents to prove all of this.
The VW dealer found that there was oil all over the bottom of the car and that the car needed a proper oil change. The total oil change with my supplying 1 quart of oil at Orangeburg was over $116, far more expensive than the VW dealer who charged me $102 with cleaning off the entire bottom of my car making sure it wouldnt catch fire or smoke up the road and certainly less than the $0 at the Chevy dealer who was gracious and didnt charge me a dime to look at my vehicle and help me out.
While in PA immediatley upon getting the notice that we were down 1.5 quarts of oil, I called and spoke to the manager there who told me that all I needed to do was to add 1.5 quarts of oil thats it and I would be fine and there is no pronblem with the car because he checked it before I left and he abruptly hung up. Upon our arrival home, I again called Orangetown and spoke to the same manager and was told to call back another day, the owner wasnt in and he again abruptly hung up.
I called back the next business day and was referred to Dimar. Dimar told me he wanted to take good care of me and to come down and he would refund me cash. I asked if we could do this via fax and phone because this has already cost me alot of time and I now have to drive there and back and spennd even more time....he said no, I want you to come down because I want to give you cash and take very good care of you. oh as an aside.... Upon getting the "free" wash, I got out to clean off the steering wheel which was sticky from the mechanics dirty hands. When I got out of the car, the car had streaks of oil all along the side of it. I asked them to get a rag and wipe it off and they said "we dont do that". I insisted that they give me a rag as my car had grease all over it and they finally did it complaining all the time about it. When I went back to get my cash refund, I was told that they couldnt give me cash, that they wouldnt reimbuse me for the Lucas oil that I bought because I didnt buy that there. I said, wait your work wasted that oil, they said no and and that I cant have cash just a credit to my card which I accepted and tht they will not pay for the Lucas Oil. Regarding the Lucas Oil, I said to Dimar, thats not good customer service and Dimar then said i dont want to see you again and that he wasted time cleaning the side of my car the other day. i told him the car came out of there with grease on it and on the steering wheel abd that all of this cost me alot of time and he said "what about my time cleaning the oil off your car". Seriously. I again asked politely for my Lucas Oil money and he said again no and I said that I would write a leter and blog this and he waved his hand at me as if he could care less. Thats what happened at this fine cusotmer service centric facility. Deplorable and Disgusting non caring point of purchase mentality coupled with completely unintelligent behavior. ughh!
