Passinger on elevator drops something of value and it slides down shaft. Passinger asks building management if it can be retrieved. Building manager calls Otis. Otis dispatches a technision who promptly retrieves dropped item before passinger can learn of alarming fees and cancel any such special visit. Building manager claims to promptly pay Otis $550 - $650 or more and promptly puts the bill on the unfortunate passinger.
So - Otis now can do nothing. They have already been paid (or so is claimed). Building management claims that passsinger officialy requested help so its now out of their hands as well.
We understand that Otis for years had been a prity forthwrite and well respected company. This particular scham appears to work best when the elevator is in a subsizeed low income appartment building. It is presently being attempted at Plaza Point Apartments in Arcata, CA. where they are trying this on one senior resident there. Charging him $537 for dropping a keyring with few keys. That complex is managed by a company known as AWI (Always With Integrity). He simply asked AWI if there was a way to get his keys from under the elevator and was told nothng about any special visits or fees. just the full bill and eviction threats should he not pay such alarming fees.
