I have had personal experience and have been scammed by this agency.
There are several problems with the agency, how it operates, and scams its members:
- The agency charges the higest yearly fee among all background talent agencies
- The agent takes on much more talent than she can possibly offer any opportunities and charges this fee to supplement her income
- You might get one or two offers in the year. When it comes time to your fee renewal, you will get an opportunity (usually your second within the year) around that time. When the payment comes, she will take your paycheck and use it to fund the fee she charges. You will also be charged this fee all while you didn't get any offers whatsoever and background roles are usually not difficult to get. Almost all the other good BG agents out there do not follow this business model.
- The agent hides behind her membership in somewhat of a shady organization called the "TTAA" and says she is in "good stganding" within that organization. The problem is that she is the founder and currently describes herself the "co-chair" of it. Of course you would have one of the best standings in an organization you founded yourself and you run to give others the false impression of any legitimacy that can be claimed for this scam agency. On their website, there isn't any mention of what the TTAA really does, how it is regulated, why it is there, and how it can best help you. It is just there, an entity with a logo, that the agent from OnSet can just use to her benefit. Additionally, the website is hosted through the free Wix doamin, which can give you an idea of its credibility.
- You will be charged ridiculous fees that eat up your paycheck. You will not be told of these fees, they will just be added as the agent hopes by operating in this semi-secretive way, you will not notice as you will be too busy scrambling away earning less than minimum wage on set (after her comissions and yearly fee is factored in)
- You will be charged HST by the agent on the fee that the bank slaps for money transfers. When the agency files their business taxes, they can deduct any bank fees as an expense. Then she goes around and charges you a fee and HST on top of it, while the HST she charges is probably not going to the government since you cannot charge HST on an expense you deduct while filing taxes.
- This agent has frequent episodes of unprofessionalism and is known to yell at talent for things that are no fault of their own and enjoys brining people to their breaking point
- There are many other agencies out there that do not partake in these insane practices.
