NYC Build It Back TOLD me to get the damages to my house done, myself, because they didn't have the man-power, at the time; they said I would be reimbursed, as long as I submitted the proper documents
Their newest stall tactic is "we have no record of an assessment being done." When I, personally, went there (and caught them off guard when I called them out on their lies,) I was told, "Well, we were told to start accepting applications, but it's not that we didn't have ENOUGH man-power...we didn't have ANY man-power, because no contractors registered with us, at that time, yet. So, we were just registering people to get an idea of how many people needed help. So, when you were told to get the work done and we would reimburse you, THAT'S what we were told to say."
In the meantime, I did EXACTLY as they told me. Unfortunately, because I had damages to my home which required immediate attention, I used my Social Security/Disability income and Child Support, to pay for majority of the work. (Thinking I would be reimbursed, as told to me by a Build It Back Supervisor.)
After 2 years and countless run-around games, I was told to file a grievance because Build It Back determined that I was only entitled to be reimbursed (approximately) 1/7th of the amount of money I spent...and I will not accept that! Not surprisingly, this process is expected to take an ADDITIONAL 6-8 months!!!
We are, currently, living with mold...which has formed behind the panelling in my hallway, bathroom, bedrooms and around the water damaged ceilings, throughout our house. They issued me a "Stop Work Order," which prevents me from fixing ANYTHING further, yet, they have done & continue to do NOTHING!!!
