NV Energy Reviews

  • May 1, 2018

Don’t let Tony Sanchez’s fancy title fool you. He’s called Senior Vice President, Government and Community Strategy for NV Energy, but just think about that. What does a person with a title like that actually do?

Let’s break it down. Simply put, he’s a narrative shaper. When it comes to corporate double-speak about how solar energy will somehow raise usage rates – he’s your man to shape the talking points. Check this out – here’s how NV Energy is shaping the conversation around that: NV Energy has relied on one core argument related to customers using solar panels (NV Energy hates solar and lobbies against it vigorously) – that they are not paying their fair share for the electric grid, and are therefore making electricity more expensive for other customers who don’t have the solar panels. Ooh, way to turn that one around on the consumer. Nice, huh?

When it comes to obscene profiteering by a utility company at the expense of the consumer – he’s your guy. NV Energy lobbyists have been fighting information contained in a report from the Energy and Policy Institute stating that, “NV Energy’s own documents reveal that it has been profiting from its customers by tens of millions of dollars per year more than regulators allowed since 2012. In total, the utility has “overearned” in Nevada by $180 million from 2012 to 2016 beyond the profit it was supposed to be allowed to earn … “

But the genius lobbyists at NV Energy, led by Senior Vice President of Government and Community Strategy Tony Sanchez continued to try to make solar the bad guy, point to what they say were unfair rates they had to pay to customers who produced excess energy via solar power, which they fed into the grid. (That’s a key part of a program known as net metering.) And they continue to lobby for rate hikes because of net metering costs even in the face of their own figures that show year after year of “overearning.”

Nice. Slick Tony Sanchez. He’s your guy, all right.

Tony Sanchez is NV Energy’s Big Man on Campus (BMOC), apparently. Some of the things he does – and gets away with – are the opposite of what most would consider to be sound moral and ethical business practices; they get swept under the rug by the Nevada Energy giant.

I know this because I was on the receiving end of it and watched him mislead women. If anyone ever applied scrutiny to Tony Sanchez’s company credit cards, some of the things found charged on there would jump out and bite you like a junkyard dog. Talk about corporate credit card abuse! I know if I ever charged some of the “business expenses” on my company’s credit card (like the way he did), I’d be out of a job.

I knew he was married and he knew I was married. It didn’t stop either of us.

Tony Sanchez (actually his full real name is Anthony Francis Sanchez III) and I connected with each other through our working relationship when he landed in Washington, DC as part of some sort of year-long job exchange with the Edison Electric Institute. During that time, he explained to me the lack of intimacy in his marriage with his lovely but detached wife, Elaine, and also told me about his four children.

As I reflect on my own weakness in believing that this almighty, high-powered, egotistical, self-proclaimed super-power lawyer (get it? – power, energy), I realize I was simply overtaken by the chemistry between us and it clouded my thinking. I hoped he was the one. But it didn’t take too long for me to see the kind of character he had. During a particularly vulnerable time for me I had spent days in the hospital and a friend came to my rescue and got me out of there -- I needed a glass of wine. My friend and I went to a restaurant for a drink, and who do I run into but Mr. Power himself, Tony Sanchez. But this time he was with another woman. When I saw them together, I realized at that moment I was no different to him than any other woman -- his wife included -- and that I would never be any different. It was a sobering moment. I realized I was a fool for placing my full faith and trust in Tony Sanchez, a mistake I’ll never make again. I just hope he doesn’t hurt anyone else.

Back in May of 2014 I signed up for NV Energy "Time of Use" energy plan which was supposed to save people money if they didn't use electricity in their house between the hours of 1pm to 7pm. I signed up for it online then called on the phone to make sure. I called a second time the next day to verify that the changes had been done and It was confirmed by their telephone operator. So months go by until yesterday which was 8/5/15 and I wanted to remove myself from the TOU plan. I called to cancel and the lady at the other end of the line stated that I can't be removed from the program because I was never on it! So in other words this whole time I was paying full price for utilities which was never discounted.

The kilowatthours were supposed to be discounted if you didn't use power between 1pm to 7pm. Between 1pm to 7pm the rates were supposed to be 6 times higher than normal. But if you used the power between 7pm to 1pm the power rates were half off. This is because between 1pm to 7pm the NV energy has to run expensive auxilliary power plants than run off of natural gas to make up for the increased demand during the summer months when everyones aircon is running. From 7pm to 1pm the electricity is very cheap for them to produce and they have an overabundance of it to go around because they have coal fired power plants which stay on 24/7 and is far cheaper than using natural gas, solar, or wind. They produce more electricity from coal at night than what they can sell so for "TOU" customers it is discounted.

In the end the power company must of seen how dilegent I was about not using the power during the peak hours and they bumped me off the "TOU" program without even telling me about it. Now my latest electric bill is $120 instead of $60 which it should be. Shame on them. They are evil, disgusting, wothless slobs who are all part of corporate greed. Very selfish and uncaring. Lacking empathy for other people who are poor and struggling. It is because of companies like NV Energy that America will never be free.
