We went to Northpointe because our two work vehicles broke down within a month of each other. The service was bad and office was dirty, but we were desperate. On June 21, 2017 we got a 13 month lease on a 2006 Cobalt and were told we could early terminate the lease anytime for a fee (we only needed it until our other cars were fixed). I called and got a quote as to how much it would cost to return it on September 21, 2017 and was told the total would be $816 because we had gone over the allotted miles by a little.
We ended up being short on finances and decided to hold on to the car a bit longer. March 27, 2018 we were again ready to return the car. This is when the trouble started. At first I was told we could not early terminate. Then was informed we had to finish paying the lease on top of early terminate fees (apparently we signed the paper but never read it ) I was confused because the last quote I had gotten did not include these left over payments but I went to have the mechanic at Northpointe look at the car so they would give me a quote anyways.
He (the mechanic who was also the lot manager) had customers and could not help me even tho I had made an appointment and showed up early. I had to call traverse City to complain and was told he would indeed do the inspection after his customer so I went back. March 30 I had it inspected by Midas as per their requirement my mechanic also looks at the car. I emailed it to Northpointe. I called later that day to see if they had a quote for me. He said he was waiting to hear back from traverse City, so I called them myself to see if they had a number for me.
Nope, it was apparently the "very busy" Kalkaska guy's job to have it for me. April 4 I called traverse City again because I had gotten no where with Kalkaska. My info had still not been given to anyone who could help me. I had even told several people how this car was posing a financial burden on us , that we needed the money for house payments, in hopes they would see the importance of me getting this quote. April 19, 2018 I opened a case with BBB. Northpointe finally called me back on April 26.
The girl who called said she had no record of my BBB complaint when I asked her, so I asked for her supervisor, who informed me "it was noted on my account" with a high degree of apathy. I finally got a quote for $1627.92. ($1250.00 after she offered to credit us the two payments we had made while waiting to hear back from them). I told her I had been through a lot of people and time (and financial hardships) before finally opening my BBB complaint and thought she could do better by canceling the early terminate fee for us as well. Nope.
I actually found out during our conversations that even after we complete the whole 13 month lease, we STILL have to pay the $495 early termination fee! (I guess that was in the paperwork as well). The BBB ultimately closed our case with us being unsatisfied with the company's offer. I want to make sure anyone who goes to Northpointe reads the contract put in front of them and does not take the salesperson's word for it. They rush you through the paperwork so fast and get you so excited about being approved that you hardly question anything they say after that.
If you do need help with something after the initial sale (like getting a quote) they make excuses and pawn you off on other people throughout the company until you want to give up. They will take advantage of any desperate soul that enters their door and not think twice about squishing the little man into the mud.
I leased a car at this location. I thought i was buying a car and was not informed that it was a lease until I had signed several documents.
When the car was there was a rubbing in the front end that they tried to fix there, and the rubbing stopped. They gave me paperwork saying they would pay to fix this problem.
The car was fine for a day. The third day I had the car I had trouble starting the car. I called my road side service and they came and started the car. That same day the car wouldn't start when i got out of work. I had the car jumped by a coworker and made it home. I left the car alone for a few days because I left town for the holidays, upon return I had to call for another emergency road side service to start the car.
The car worked for a few days and i took it in to a dealership approved shop to get it fixed. they told me the car was unsafe to drive and they rushed approval on the fix. That day i thought this was great that it was fixed that day. As time wore on I was appauled that they were able to sell me a car I should not have been driving to begin with. I went to a friend's house that night and noticed that a fan was still going. I did a search on the internet and saw that new cars will sometimes run like this and left it at that. The fan ran my battery to dead 4 times after this. I had to call another emergency road side service to get me into the car. The battery had completely died and I coulnd't even use a turn key to get into the car. The car was jumped yet again. I took the car back to the same shop I brought the car to previously and they told me I needed a new battery. I bought the car a new battery for $108. I called North Pointe Motors to see if this would be covered. They told me they would see about having it covered or a payment pushed and I have yet to hear back from them about the answer to that question.
The car dind't start the morning after I got the new battery. I used a car charger that had to be left on the car for an hour to get it to start. That night after work the car wouldn't start. We tried to jump the car with two different cars and we could get absolutely no charge on the battery.
The next day I called North Pointe to see what they could do for me. I had used all of my emergency road side services for the year had no way of moving the car to a shop. They were able to arrange something to get the car to another shop they work with. The shop that the car was taken to forgot about my car for 3 days. When I called to check on the car they thought the car was no longer there. They determined the problem to be an alternator. It took 4 days to get approval to get the car fixed on top of losing the car.
Many more fixes came out of this trip to the shop and ultimately I leased the car on December 20, 2016. I have had a car that does what I need a car to do (get me from point a to point b) for less than a week. The car has been in someone elses possession for over 2.5 weeks. I have missed over a week and a half of work. And have had one of the most stressful months of my life.
I purchased a vehicle from North Point motors in traverse city.. I was lied to from the get go. I bought a warren try that was useless for they didn't want to pay for the transmission lines to be replaced with much complaining they did but not by where I wanted it done..Instead it went to Bell Tire and they didn't even fix it right they also replaced on censor that required the oil to be changed and didn't bother to put enough oil in thinking because I'm a woman I wouldn't check. Sorry I'm not that stupid I trust no auto repair place..I've been ripped of 1 to many times.. I also reported that there are different tires in the back from the front and that's a no no with 4 wheel drive. There are multiple service engine lights and codes , cruise control doesn't work, the switch on the blower doesn't work on the fourth setting and was told well don't use 4 and the air conditioning quit working in the hottest August we have had in awhile.. Now I can not get the salesman to return my calls as he promised to fix this piece of junk he sold me and when I hadn't even made a payment yet and wanted to give it back he said No it's yours now.. Please don't buy anything from them they lie straight to your face then laugh at you saying they will just shut your vehicle off where ever its at if you don't make your weekly payment.. If you want a vehicle with a $2000.00 to 3000.00 dollar repair bill just to get it safe then go to north point. If you have no choice but to buy one from them because of poor credit make sure you take it to a trusted dealer for a ensepction before signing any paperwork!
