Contacted North Star Moving for a 1 BEDROOM move a few days in advance. Spoke with a "Becky" who indicated the price is a flat 50/hour +100/transportation fee since I was moving to NJ. Scheduled for 11:30 am they arrived at 10 am. One very large Russian man and one smaller Russian, as a female I was immediately intimidated. Thankfully my boyfriend was present. They asked I signed paperwork indicated the same rates. At 12:15 pm all was packed and loaded. They beat us to the new address and essentially held my belongings hostage until I gave them $424 dollars. They started at 10:24 and arrived at 1:00 pm. I immediately contacted "Becky" who hung up and forwarded my additional calls. I gave them the $424 and my boyfriend literally completed the whole unloading process alone. At 2:45, the showed up to my apartment after my boyfriend moved and asked for a tip. I am beyond annoyed and aggravated.......DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY...I REPEAT...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. You will be taken for a wild expensive ride. If you do get everything IN WRITING and if you're a women have a male with you.
I hired these people and it was a fraud. They advertise $50 per hour for two men and a truck but they charge way more than that, they are careless (several pieces of my furniture got scratched), and they didn't provide a certificate of insurance as agreed over the phone (the pic in the ad says that they are fully insured). For a three hour move, I ended up paying $340. They alleged that they had to pay to rent the truck, that there was trafffic, and other non-sense fees. Amazingly enough, the pic in the ad says "No Hidden Fees".
They waited until the truck was loaded to surprise me with this total (meaning I had to either accept the rate or calll the police to get my stuff). Kind of blackmailing. I chose to pay hoping that I would be able to sue these thieves in small claims court later on but there is no website or physical address (so they cannot be notified). It was a total rip-off.
Even the truck driver said that he agreed with me but that he didn't care about the people sub contracting them since they didn't pay them enough. I called the company after and they went unresponsive. I hope that this report can do something to prevent this from happening to other people.
