I am making a formal complaint against NorthStar Alarm Services. On November 13,2017 I faxed (801) 373-4027 my written notice of cancellation of services nad also mailed them a hard copy, dated Feburay 23,2013 psrsgraph1. I on terms and conditions signed a sixty months contract. Customer has to give written notice of cancellation to the other at least 60 days prior to the end of any or initial or renewal term.
On November 13, 2017 I gave my written notice of cancellation more than the sixty days notification. I received a phone call two months after my notification and cancellation that I was two months behind on my payments. I called back to NorthStar to talk with the person who had contacted me and was informed that this person was not there, but that the person I was talking with could help me, I tried to explain that there was a mistake but he kept telling me I owed two months back payments.
Again I proceded to to explain that I had cancelled my contract, and was promptly hung up on. A week later Adam from NorthStar called and left a message saying that I owed two months back payments, so I called back and could not reach Adam, this person told me he could not help me because I could not recall my poassword from five years ago. I told them again that I had sent both a written and hard copy of my intention of csncelling. They refuse to honor my wishes and cancel my contract, but continue to bombard me with calls that I owe them for back payments.
My daughter got into a contract with Northstar Alarm on June 27,2014, She got married July 25,2015 and her husband is in the Army Reserves and had to report to Alabama August 27,2015 for training for 2 plus years. My daughter no longer wanted the service since her husband will be deployed many times. She called to cancel and they wanted a copy of his orders and they sent them, because he is in the reserves his orders look different than regular Army orders and Northstar did not accept it. My husband called Northstar and they said they would have to discuss it with the Supervisor. They called my husband and said that they will put the account on hold till they move back, that is not what they want and my husband and I do not want the system and want it cancelled and equiptment taken out of our home. They gave us a contract that only gives us a 3 day out on the contract and doesn't say anything out early cancellation fees.
It also says on the contract that they can "listen in" anytime they want, well that's invasion of privacy. they told my daughter since her husband got orders to go to Alabama there wasn't any problem cancelling the contract, but because he is in the Reserves they are not honoring that, it's the same!!! I read online since I have no other information about it that if you want to cancel you have to pay for each month til the end of the 5 year contract, that's ridiculous!!. we would pay a reasonable early termination fee. They also told my daughter if she doesn't pay the monthly service fee which they keep charging her they will put it into collections and it will affect her credit score, you know we have tried with these people and they are being totally unreasonable and I don't get why a Military spouse can't get out of a misleading contract, they are a Scam!!
Good luck with Northstar Alarm, you'll need it. These guys are total crooks and scammers. There is no early termination fee, because they want to strong arm you into paying the service contract in full. I started mine about the same time as your daughter. Now they want me to pay $2,100 to cancel the service. What the heck? Yes, they're serious. Still researching my options. I will tell everyone I know in person and on social media to NEVER get involved with NORTHSTAR ALARM.
