This is what happened I found this car on a website of a well known dealer Northpointe Motors in which it did have a carfax certificate and many pictures along with a video of the car itself, when the car was delivered I was not given all the details or full disclosure of the mechanical and damage problems which made the car unsafe to drive, one was the car did not go into gear the person who drove the car to my location said" We almost didn't get the car out of the lot because of the shiftier problem" when I said it sounded like a transmission problem he told me it was a linkage problem as well as it needed a front end aliment”. Next was the driver seat did not stay locked in an upright position,as well as the odometer mileage did not match the mileage on the car, we were not told about a broken windshield or a scratch which made it almost impossible to see above, I went to take it out to test drive for myself I was unable to move the car out of park to be able to drive it . My brother wrote a check for the car purchase he put a stop payment on the check when he had run another VIN number check which came up with it being in an auto accident he called the company to come get it the same night and they didn't call til the next day which was a Friday saying they would have someone there to check it out but no one had showed up then they called on Monday saying they will take us to court for fraud and we haven't heard from them since and now it has been almost a 2 weeks without communication !!
In May of 2012, I bought my first car. I am a woman, and I was only 19 at the time. I had just gotten a job and had a boyfried who lived in California. I needed a car to get back and forth to work, as well as be able to take me down to the Detroit airport so I could go to California. Being 19, I didnt have any credit yet and decided to go with Northpointe because they had a black Dodge Neon SXT that I fell in love with. I went in and worked with Jeff who put the car way above my pricepoint. Being 19, I couldn't afford 230 dollars a month for a car.
Jeff tried to put me into a car that I didn't want because it was cheaper, even after telling him it was not something I was interested in. He pushed. I got a second job and came back to purchase the Neon, test drove it and decided all was well. Because of my age, the bank REQUIRED a warranty of 5k miles or 6months whichever came first. 2 days, before I hit 6 months, 114 miles after 5k, I started having problems with the car. It would chug, shut off randomly and not restart. I thought it was engine related.
I brought it to my mechanic who tried the warranty and alas, the 1000 dollar warranty I HAD to have, was worthless. My fuel pump was bad. 350 dollars, no big deal. I get the car fixed, and fight for almost a year, fuel pump after fuel pump, tirods, wheel barrings, suspension, the pulleys on my engine. I understand owning a car cost money in maintenence, but for the 2000+ I sank into it before 1 year was up, was not gonna fly.
Now I've had the car with minimal issues, but the first year was rough. I will NEVER go back there again. As a 19 year old, moving out, getting married, starting college... a lemon was NOT what I needed and added unneeded stress in my life that caused a GERD flare up that to this day, has not gone down. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.

I had "every" intention of taking the time to write a good review, because I know how important reviews are in this kind of business. I understand because I too am in sales, I have been a Realtor in Traverse City for over 15 years. I am not one to write bad reviews, I may have written one bad review in the 40 years I have been alive.
When you buy a vehicle especially from a dealership, you really look to them to be honest with you, and hope that they are looking out for your best interest. The purchase of a vehicle is one of the most expensive purchases you make in your lifetime. So you want honesty, and confidence in your sales person/dealership, just as you would in your real estate agent if you were buying or selling property.
I had been having problem after problems with my Subie and knew it was time to buy a car. I had just started a new job in April, and knew I could not be taking any more time off of work to continue down this path of getting repairs done on my car. I met Tim Banyai, who was more than helpful with finding me a newer car. I was in a bit of a pinch because the day I put my Subie up for sale I had a bidding war on it and it sold within 2 hrs. I understand I did provide Tim a lot of time in the search for a newer vehicle for me.
I admit with the time frame I gave Tim he did in fact find me a vehicle that I liked, one that would be great in the winter as well as decent enough to drive my clients around in.
My problem is that the day I took it home, I noticed the brakes were squealing badly but only when I went down a hill, and the air bag light was on all the time, the BAS light came on intermittenly. I thought the air bag light was supposed to be on all the time, I thought that was normal, it was letting me know the air bags are turned on. Apparently, that is not so. I had since contacted my sales person, he suggested I get the car in to get it looked at and they would cover the brakes.
Ok so this meant I had to "miss work" again, find someone to pick me up at the auto repair place, have someone drop me off at work, bring me back to auto repair place when car was done, this was just to have it "looked at." This does not include having do all of the same once I actually schedule the repairs. Remember I had just spend the last 2 months having repair done after repair for my subie and I just started this new job.
Now I'm responsible for making the phone calls while at work, setting up the appointment while at work, and figuring out a ride for myself while at work. And this is a new car to me. I did not want to buy a car that needed repairs right away.
I get the brakes fixed, they seem just ok. I noticed I still have to press hard to get the car to brake, brake dust is all over, I have pictures, and the brakes squeel badly, and smoke coming out the passenger side of brakes/or under the hood. The smoke or maybe all of it is from a caliper. I am told that I need to call Appearance Unlimited to deal with the brakes, and per Tim Banyai at Norhtpointe Motors, Northpointe will not cover brakes that work. What about the air bag light? The ticking sound under the hood? The smoke coming out from under the hood or passenger side brakes/caliper?
This is a 2010 Dodge Journey, just bought it last month (June 2014) and these are all of the problems I am already experiencing. What do I think they should do?
They should offer to "pick up" my car, leave me with a car, take my car into one of their shops, have it thorougly inspected, mainly the items I have listed, fix the issues, cover the costs, drop my car back off to me when it's finished and pick the car back up that they are courtesly offered me so I can keep working so I can pay for this very expensive, 25% interest rate vehicle they have sold me.
If someone from Northpointe wishes to make this right, I think it would be in your best interest to contact me rather than have me contact you, since that is all I have been doing.
Yet all they care about is that I signed the dotted line. And the service ends right there.
I absolutely hate writing negative reviews on local businesses in my area however, I'm hoping my report saves people the time and hassle of purchasing with this dealership.
At the time, I was not in the market for a new car but, I had been keeping my eyes out for this exact make/model that I've wanted for awhile. Then there it was, sitting in the Northpointe TC dealership. I pulled into the lot, after hours, and did a few walks around it. I decided to stop in the next day and speak to someone about possibly purchasing the car...
A few hours later, I was driving out in the new car. I ended up fininancing a portion of the cost with loan (that they got for me, which had a very awesome rate). Before I left, they agreed on putting new tires, a windsheld, and repairing the power steering pump (it was whining). I'm still a happy customer.
A week goes by and I decide to fix the power steering pump myself (to save everyone some cash and I was bored on a summer day). I tell Northpointe and only ask for the cost of the parts needed. They don't comply for some reason. Fine, I understand. I did something without running it by them first. I bring up the tires and windsheld - they say that they'll have someone call me within a day to go over it.
Another week goes by, no response. I call and ask them what the deal is. They said that they're having issues with their Bell Tire account and that it'll be a little while before we can get the new tires on. Fine by me. Lets get the windsheild fixed. The guy tells me that the windsheild company is backed up a month - I ask for their contact information, they give it to me. I call the windsheild company and ask if they've been contacted by Northpointe. They say that they havent - surprise. I go ahead and schedule a windsheild replacement and let Northpointe know about it. They're cool with it and the windshield is fixed the following week.
Back to the tires, still nothing. My sales rep says that they can cut a check for a portion of the tires (instead of waiting). I'm cool with that. He advises me to stop in the following week to pick the check up. So, I stop by one day after work - no check. I wait 2 hours for someone with the authority to get back to the office and write it up with me. Fine. I'm out the door, check is deposited, and new tires installed a few days afterwards.
All in all, this process so far has taken approximately 2 months. It gets worse...
One day, on my way home from work, the car dies. I'm able to get it started back up fine but, I don't risk it. I have it towed back to my house and then to a repair shop in town. The guys say that the oil is very dirty. Weird, I got an oil change after I purchased the car and have only driven it 200-300 miles since. I ask the shop guys what would cause this - they give me one response, "poor maintenance". Not cool with me because I take pride in keeping all of my vehicles in excellent working condition (I have the same make/model 10 years older than this Northpointe vehnicle, over 300k miles, and it drives perfect). I report this issue to my sales rep at Northpointe the day it happens.
A month later, the same issue happens. However, I'm unable to restart the car. I have the vehicle towed to a Subaru specaility shop in Traverse City. They tell me the same thing, "motor is bad because of poor maintenance". Except this time, they say that a rod has broken and the car will need a new motor! I'm completely shocked and pissed off. I immedaitely call the dealership and speak to my sales rep. He says to just get an invocie for the repair and send it over to him via email. I do just that and call to verify he's received it. He tells me that he's going to take the invoice to the owners to figure something out. At this point, I'm starting to think that they knew something was up with the car before I purchased it.
Two days pass with no communication from Northpointe, I call and talk to my sales rep. He says that the owner will call me to discuss. Two more days pass, the owner still hasn't called. I call back and he again tells me that the owner will call. One day passes, the owner, Ryan Craig, finally calls me.
Ryan tells me that there isn't anything they can do, other than to trade the broken car in for a different car and I'd have to eat the cost difference in the loan - not an option for me. I still want the car and I want it fixed. He says that he wants to help me out and that he'll have to talk to the other owner (his father) about what they can do. I ask about the warranty situation and he says that there was only a 30-day warranty available (I wasn't ever asked if I wanted to purchase an extended warranty but, that's beside the point now). I just purchased an $18,000 vehicle and they're not going to stand behind it? I'd understand if the motor had blown a year or two after the purchase but, 60 days? Who did I really just buy this car from? That's not how reputable business is done. Anyways...
I go back and forth with Ryan (and his father, Dennis) for about 3 months. He asks me to tow the car from repair shop to repair shop - in hopes of getting a better quote (I had to pay for these tows, mind you). During this time, he implys more than once that they'll cover a portion of the repair (why wouldn't they if he's asking me to take the car from one shop to another). At this point, I'm fed up. I take it back to the shop I originally took it to.
I tell Ryan that the car is going to get repaired. I'm willing to cover the 50% deposit to start the repair and he agrees to covering the final payment. The total of the repair is $9200. The repair is started and is finished a week later. I call Ryan (on his personal cellphone) and get no response. I text him (on his personal cellphone) and get no response. I call Dennis, no response. I call the dealership and leave multiple messages, all ignored. I stop into the dealership looking for a check - Ryan isn't there. I wait 3 hours for him to get back into the office, he never shows. He's completely avoiding me now.
The repaired car sits at the shop for 2 weeks before I decide to cover the reminder of the payment. I've just paid an extra $9200 on top of my original $18000 purchase. I have no words for how I feel at this point.
To this day, Ryan Craig still ignores my calls and text messages.
So please, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Please save yourself the hassle. Please advise your friends and family members not to purchase from this company.
I recently purchased a f250 from northpointe of cadillac. i found it on the internet. made a deal on the phone. then sent a deposit about 3 weeks before picking it up. the salesman named robert said everything was all set and would see me when i got there as i was working out of state at the time. my soninlaw and i got to the dealership on saturday. went for a test ride and the truck ran out of fuel. being a desiel the filters need to be changed when this happens. jeff the manager said they had to ask corporate if they could change the filters!!?? when signing for the truck i told them i was going to get a ford extended warranty and robert said it was a good idea because they were having trouble with there warranty company and was going to change. two days later i drove the truck to muskegon and back, shut it off and it would not restart. i called jeff at the dealership and he said what do you want me to do about it? I took the truck in to get it inspected the next day and they found the trouble with the starting when warm issue and could be repaired for about 900$. during the same inspection they also discovered it needed all ball joints and front universals to the tune of over 1000$. I called jeff and told him the truck would not pass the inspection for the warranty . I had to leave to go back to work out of state for three weeks in two days so jeff said we could take care of it when i got back. While out of state the turbo and injectors went out and cost 2900$ to repair. called jeff and he wouldnt do anything saying i bouhght it as is and i should have bought an extended warranty. Kind of hard to when it wont pass the inspection!!! i waS ALSO TOLD THE VEHICLE IS INSPECTED TWICE BEFORE NORTHPOINTE ACCEPTS THEM. I then drove 60 mi back to work . The next day the truck wouldnt run again . back to the ford dealer . erg cooler, oil cooler to the tune of 2800$ this time! I couldnt afford all of this all before the first payment!!! I was stranded three days before christmas out of state and couldnt get home!!!!! I had to have a semi haul it home and am thinking im going to pursue legal action. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!! THEY ARE MISLEADING, THEY MISREPRESENT THEIR PRODUCTS, AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED!!! After several calls to jeff, he said he cannot give me corporates number. corporate was was going to call me back but i still have received no call!
