In 2017 my mother and I co-signed a loan through Clayton Homes for a brand new mobile home. The HVAC unit warranty holder is Northgate parts, the warranty was for 10 years, and said unit has gone out 3 times in the past 3 years. The first time was in July or August of 2020. We called Clayton who informed us to call Northgate. So, we called Northgate, and they sent a tech out.
They claimed to have fixed it, and proceeded to give us a price of how much we owed. When we asked them why we were being charged, since it was in warranty, they told us that the specific problem didn't fall under warranty. We paid. In Spetember of 2021, the unit went out. Again. So, again, we called Northgate, and again, they sent a tech. He fixed it again, and charged us, again. So, again, we asked why, since it was still in warranty. Again, he gave us the excuse that that problem didn't fall under warranty either. So, we paid.
Well, On Thursday, March 24th, 2022, it went out for the third time. Upon looking, we noticed some wires were frayed up, inside, so, we thought rats were to blame, and figured rats wouldn't be covered under warranty, so we called a third party HVAC company. He came out and diagnosed what he could see on the inside, that there was 120 volts of electricity running through 24 volt wires, and that's why the wires were frayed.
He quoted $600 in parts for just what he could see on the inside, and he told us that since the unit was still under warranty, our best bet would be call Northgate. So we did. They set an appointment for a technician to come out on Thursday, March 31st, 2022. They called me first thing that morning, and informed me that the service call had been canceled becasue they "had trouble collecting from us in the past," and we "badgered the technician." I don't think asking why things aren't covered in the warranty constitutes "badgering," and we paid both times.
