Boy! Were we ever taken in by this company. The sales rep was really nice and showed us his own log home which was quite nice. So, we ordered our log package and were so excited when it arrived and the crew started stacking the logs.
Our problems didn't begin until the house was weathered in and we started doing interior work. More specifically, the interior walls. They all needed a finish, this we expected. What we didn't expect was the terrible condition of the interior millwork of the logs. It is, by far, the worst millwork we have ever seen in our lives (and we've built plenty of homes in the past).
All Northeastern Log Homes needed to do was to sharpen or replace the blades of their planer. ALL, and I mean ALL of the logs have snipe marks EVERYWHERE. The grooves between the logs are even worse.
Have you ever tried sanding a 45-degree groove? It's almost impossible. When I asked the sales rep about the interior of the logs he said that most people just put a finish on them and don't do any sanding. Our house is approximately 2,400 square feet and every single log and groove need complete sanding.
It's enough to make a person cry to see the horrible condition of this product. Absolutely no pride in the workmanship at Northeastern log homes. After we complained to the sales rep he said he'd come out and take a look. He never showed up. Probably because he knew what he'd find. One thing I can tell you for certain is that the logs in his own home weren't in this condition and he probably did just put a finish on and was done with it.
We aren't kids. I'm 65 and my husband is 66. We'll be lucky to live long enough to finish all of the sanding that needs to be done to this house. These people at Northeastern log Homes should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of people but even more ashamed for taking advantage of people of our age, especially when the sales rep knew we were on a strict budget and would be doing most of the work ourselves.
Please be cautious of this company. When your package arrives inspect every single log while the sales rep is still on site. Send it back if it's not perfect or demand compensation for any additional work that will need to be done to make the logs perfect. I can't even get the sales rep to come out and take a look so I'm guessing there will be no compensation for all of the additional work that will go into making this place liveable.
