Sean came out and viewed my attic, 1200 sqf. Agreed on a price to remove all existing insulation, spray a disinfectant and blow in new insulation. 4000$ job! i gave 1400 down. Day 1, 2 guys show up @ 9:55 am. They came in a personal vehicle without anything to work with. Just a few garbage bags and a tool to cut my drywall in garage for access. They informed me that their big truck broke down. I did kinda freak out because i thought they would be bringing a large vacuum to vacuum out the old insulation.
They did explain to me that the insulation in the attic had to be rolled up and removed by hand. So i understood. After that things went down hill big time. The guy running the show was 6'8" ! it was like shoving a hamster into a mouse wheel! as soon as he saw the job he started complaining about how there was no way the 2 of them would be able to get in the attic being that it was too tight of a space. Mind you when sean ahern came to see the job, he stuck his head up in the attic and knew what it looked like.
I guess he should have put on his work clothes and actually climbed all the way in so he knew the extent of the job. So, for next couple of hours they cut an opening in the garage wall one guy went in and the other sat on a ladder waiting for bags to be filled and handed out the hole! they contacted sean to tell him the job was too much for just the 2 of them so sean sent another guy out and sean also came by with an old shop vac a couple of brooms and more black trash bags. So the 2 guys in the attic worked on getting the insulation out while the big guy sat waiting for bags to be handed to him all while he was on his cell phone texting!
He also told the new guy not to worry about getting it super clean up there!! when i heard him say that i went out and let him know that i was paying to have super clean! when sean ahern came by he let me know that he did not realize there were 2 layers of old insulation. Maybe had he gone up before taking the job, he would have known this. Around 3-3:30 on that 1st day the first 2 guys left for the day and the new guy was left alone to work until around 5. I would estimated the first 2 guys did about 3 1/2 hours worth of work!
The big guy did not like me asking any questions and was not at all happy about the job. I even thought buying them lunch would help. Day 2, the new guy arrived around 11 am. The original 2 came at 1:40 pm. They "had another job" that morning. The new guy did most of the work that day. When the 2 original guys showed up they had the big truck. The big guy in charge came strolling in kind of spacy looking. I asked him if he had the johns manville insulation in the truck which is what sean suggested using.
The big guy just walked right on by saying no, it's owens corning, johns manville is crap!!!! i about lost it. I called sean to ask him about this. He was like, "what is wrong with this guy telling you that?" so, sean called him and the guy went out to the truck, came back in with an empty plastic wrapper with jm on it. He said it is johns manville. So, sean called me back and during the conversation he said to me "you need to just let them do their job. If you were my sister, i would tell you to take a valium and drink a beer!" so again the 2 guys that arrived at 1:40 left around 3:15.
The new guy couldn't do anymore work due to the fact that the other 2 took equipment that he needed in order to work! he called his boss, sean, and sean told him to leave for the day. Due to all of the delays, i had to cancel having my attic sprayed! there was still way too much old insulation and dirt everywhere! the spray needed to be put down to dry before installing new insulation. My brother came by and we both looked in the attic, i took some photo's showing the mess left for the day. My brother called sean.
Sean told him i was micromanaging his guys and they couldn't get anything done! that was a lie! sean also told my brother that they would be there the next morning and were going to spray on top of anything left and just blow the insulation in!! day 3 they show up at 8:30. The big guy is in the garage. I get a text from sean asking me to let them do their job! i sent him a text back telling him to call them and let them know that i wanted to go up and see the attic before any insulation was blown in.
He wrote back "absolutely linda". I had no idea the big guy went into the garage and started filling my attic with insulation. No one ever once said come and look before we blow this stuff in! then they came through my house with hoses, up into the attic in the house and started blowing it. I asked them to stop and let me see how things looked to make sure all old was out and cleaned. It was not!! i asked the big guy why there was still old pink insulation at the soffits.
He said it needed to be and made a comment like i didn't need to worry about it. And off he went blowing it in. He said he took pictures and would email them to me. I also told sean i wanted to see the pictures. To this day i have not seen any pictures. As soon as these guys were done, sean pulled in my drive, knocked on the door wanting his money. I brought up the fact that he accused me of micro managing. He denied saying that and i said you are lying.
I was standing right next to my brother when he told him that on the phone. I told him it was not true. He apologized and said that is what his guys told him. I should never have paid him. They ran off of my drive putting huge ruts in my lawn and smashed my drain pipe! the smell from the insulation has been horrendous and making me and my dogs sick, sneezing all the time. I am getting sores in my nose from breathing this stuff in! i have insulation flying out all over my garage and i do believe my new duct work was damaged from their carelessness.
I have insulation coming out of the vents in my kitchen and bath! they also cracked my ceiling! what a nightmare. I should have researched better. I found them on the scamion after the fact. Wish i had seen that first. I should have done my due diligence before hiring this company. I just want them to come and take it out and give me my money back! oh, always make sure of permits. Turns out they should have gotten permits and an inspection would have been done. I was told no, that i did not need permits.
Turns out they were wrong! this is my home and money. They were supposed to be working for me, not against me. A home owner that hires a company to do a job, should be able to ask questions as long as that homeowner is paying them. Yep, sean was right there as soon as they walked out waiting for his money. Stupid me for giving it. Too many times women are taken advantage of by people like this. Lesson learned.
