Went to this medical provider to get broken arm treated. Medical personnel were excellent. However their billing department is a mess! I have medical insurance. It requires a co payment. Each time I was seen I asked to make the copayment in cash.
Several times during the course of treatment I asked upon completion of each visit to pay the expected copayment. I knew if there was a practitioner I saw that day there was a copayment for that visit. If the PA asked for an xray to be taken, there was a separate co pay for that visit. Each time at the end of the visit I paid it.
Several months after the completion of services, I receive a bill for $60 for unpaid copays. I went into the billing office and requested a printed statement of account. It was a mess. The harried accountant told me to wait until the insurance reimbursements were posted before a FINAL figure could be calculated.
That came in December. In December I received a bill for sixty dollars. I called the office to get an explaination and I got voice mail.
I then put it aside until late January when I gave in and paid the $60 in full.
Two days later I get a phone call from their collection agent.
Two weeks later I get a bill from their collection agent acknowledging receipt of payment. I never paid the collection agent. I paid the provider directly prior to receiving any written communication from the collection agent. In this same letter from the collection agent - which is out of state - it makes a demand for $18.00 in fees for a $60.00 bill! Thirty percent!
So I call the the providers billing office to discuss this nonsense. They inform me that once it goes to collection, I have to pay the fee! I protest and say the bill was paid prior to any written notice to me that I was in (sic) collection! The Doctors office billing persons response was I am responsibile fo the fee and if I did not pay it it would damage my credit! Ridiculious!!!
Now I have to jump through hoops, waste more off my time and ultimately suffer damaged credit until I get this resolved.
If you break your arm in Glens Falls, DO NOT go to North Country Sports Medicine. They may set your arm, but their billing department and support staff may raise your blood pressure and negatively affect your cardiac and mental health!
