First time in over 2yrs, i received a letter from north american readers chioce requesting $59.90 past due w/balance of $1377.70 due!!! i've been calling and calling, telling them i don't want any magazines! they call people and tell them they are raising money for students. Letter is not on official letterhead and it's simply states "sincerely account manager" they use a 1-800-582-8677 phone number and 221 n kansas st ste 700 el paso tx 79901. I will be reporting to every agency available...From bbb to ftc & attorney general. I know i'm one of thousands being ripped off.
I received a free subscription to Better Homes & Gardens for a 1 year period starting around February 2015. After two months they began sending me multiple different magazines (8 to be exact). They called around April to see if I was happy with them. At this time I told them they were sending many magazines I had not subscribed to. They stated they would stop them. They did stop them, then started sending 5 more different ones.
I am not interested in any of them. On August 10, 2015 they called again asking if I was enjoying my magazines and I again told them no, I did not order them, do not read them and they need to stop sending them as I just throw them out, and do appreciate the wasted paper they are creating. A service rep (Joe Young) then wanted to verify my credit card number, which I refuseed to do. She said she could not change my account (that they created) unless I did so, and gave me phone number 800-582-8677 to call to handle. She also stated that if I didn't call the number they were going to automatically charge my credit card for $49.99 and only had until midnight to do so.
She was told her I wasn't calling anyone and she could handle it. She started telling me how great all these magazines where and I finally just hung up. She also gave me phone number 855-995-3360. Mind you, she was calling from #442-222-5541.
On August 12, 2015 they called again (phne #860-781-7108), the lady was very nice and said she would change the account and to hold for a moment. Another lady came on the phone that was very rude, stating that I had to call the 855-995-3360 number to change, and again that would charge my credit card (which in the meantime, I cancelled), when I started to tell her I was not going to do that, she hung up on me.
I usually do not order magazines because I feel they are a waste of time (and these are), and will not order any again. Free of not.
Never before have I seen such an outlandish scheme, and intend to report them to the Better business Bureau.
