We had worked out a deal with a transportation company to travel from Northern California to Ocala, Florida with our two 150lb Great Pyrenees dogs, 4 cats, and a cockatoo bird. The original company we booked with got their dates mixed up and farmed us out to another service, Small Animal Delivery a guy named Norman Koelmel. We were moving across the country and had a flight to catch the next day so we agreed to let him take the animals. We weren't able to get into reviews about Norman last minute but I wish we did!
He has lost puppies and killed other animals during transport. These transport companies are not in any concern of the animals they are complete money makers and try to fill the entire van full of cages to make top dollar. Each cage is way too small and the animals sit on metal bars for the entire trip. I have read reviews of trauma and animals that were very sick due to no water or food. Our situation was way worse and a case of animal cruelty! These are the greediest people I have ever met.
He picked up our animals and went to Utah, Washington, Idaho, Arizona, back to California then to El Paso Texas back to California! All before they met up with the other animal driver to drop our animals because he didn't want to face us. Norman said he checked on the dogs at 6 pm and it looked like they were sleeping. This is during the hottest time of the year, Summertime in Idaho! Then he said the same for 8 pm so he checked them again in the morning and they were dead. We got the vet report and they said the dogs had died from asphyxiation.
He never took them out to walk because first of all he could barely walk with bad leg problems and they were hard to handle being the size that they were. He left them in a hot van and they both died. We are so lucky the other animals didn't die as well. We never received our dogs and the other animals would not arrive at our home until 14 days after pick-up. All of the animals were traumatized and still are and we are devastated about the loss of our two dogs.
He never called afterward he just never contacted us again. He said your two dogs have died, do you want them sent to you or cremated!! This person has no right to handle anyone's animals! He is a total and complete jerk. Anyone hiring him to pick up their animal is making a huge mistake and should NOT put your animals in the care of this man.
When he picked up he had dogs barking and screaming and didn't address them in any way and cages stacked on top of each other. No generator just a front air conditioner that obviously couldn't travel back to our dogs that were on a wood board in which we provided blankets (which apparently make it worse for the dogs in the heat!).
