DON'T USE THIS COMPANY EVER they are crooks. In July of 2015 Robert came to my house and gave me a quote for $8,000 to move from LA to Oregon and I put 50% down on the spot. After they had packed my house and loaded it into a truck they informed me that it was more than they expected and I would have to pay an additional $2,800. Some of the packers were great and some of them just dumped my stuff without being wrapped into a box.
Then I was given a delivery date and my kids took time off from their jobs in NY and Concord CA to fly to Oregon and help me unpack. We sat here with nothing day after day until they finally had to give up and fly home while I kept getting the run around from Robert and then Andrea about when they would finally deliver my belongings. Then we got an answering machine message for Robert saying he had a heart attack and was no longer employed at this company. I started calling Andrea and her daughter was sick almost every day and so she wasn't in the office.
Finally on a Saturday night at 9pm they called and said my belongings would be delivered that night at 1am and I had to give the drive the balance of what was owed in cash $6,800. I explained that I don't have that much money in cash and that on a Saturday night at 9pm there was no way I could get it. They said fine they would not deliver my stuff until Monday provided I had the cash.
On Monday I went to the bank to get the cash and the bank was reluctant to hand over cash and insisted on a certified check. I called Andrea from the bank and she said they would not accept a certified check. I finally had her talk to the bank direct and very reluctantly she finally agreed to accept the check.
The company showed up Tuesday afternoon to deliver my goods. Jared was the supervisor on site with his assistant. The assistant was wonderful, Jared was a monster. He was rude, sloppy and kept breaking things as he went along. In addition, this is a brand new house with hardwood floors and he did numerous gouges and scratches everywhere. The repairs are a little over 5k. Somehow they warped the refrigerator door and it wouldn't close so I had to buy a new fridge. They broke so many things it is ridiculous. In addition, he kept trying to get me to sign a release that they had delivered everything.
Then they didn't have all of my stuff. I finally got a box of stuff in Feb of 2016. But I am still missing things. One of them is a yard ornament that is very heavy. Andrea finally agreed to pay for the ornament and NH Movers was supposed to go and pick up the item and bring it to Oregon on one of their regular trips. It is now the end of March 2016 and I still don't have my ornament.
Now Andrea says she doesn't work there anymore and to stop calling her. NH Movers don't answer the phone. It has been 8 months and I am still fighting with these folks to get them to deliver what is mine and they agreed to and I paid for.
I am a senior citizen at 69 1/2 and this is the treatment they have given me. I am retiring and will be on a fixed income. If anyone knows how to get them to pick up my ornament and bring it to Oregon please let me know. Or if you know of anyone else that can transport this item let me know. This company has cost me over 10k in repairs on a brand new house that has never been lived in, in addition to the extra 2,800 in moving costs I had to pay. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING.
I'm writing this to warn anyone looking to use this company to move their belongings. First off, don't believe their original quote. Our quote more than double once they step foot at our home. If they refuse to do an in home quote, then they should honor their original quote. They go through another service (contractors) which illegal to not let the customer know about ahead of time. So, here are two illegal things they've done from the start. Once we arrived I called to start the process of delivery I was given multiple dates for delivery. Our original delivery date was honored but not without a hassle. We got a lot of belongs broken and the packing service was horrible. Things just tossed into boxes, nothing labeled and I had to say that they tried to deliver several boxes that weren't ours. We are also missing several pieces to furniture with no way to replace those pieces without buying a whole new bed. They only accept cash before they will unload. Not a good business practice.
AKA New Horizon Moving & Storage out of sherman oaks ca to move our things from Oxnard ca to Rhode island .. this is where all the problems began. Upon speaking with a guy named Robert he quoted me 3400$ for our move and assured me that my bill would not become outragous once my items were collected as i stated to robert my budget for the move was 4K total. I scheduled pickup for wed. july 14th at 10 am . Well New Horizon Moving & Storage showed up on tuesday around 12:30 pm a day early and 2.5 hours late.. their movers smelled of beer and weed upon arrival! after about 4.5 hours our things were packed and ready to be shipped... only to be notified that our bill as now jumped to 6100$ i was in shock.. but my things were already loaded onto the truck so what choice did i have at this point . They assured us our things would be gone by thurs and we would hear from a driver in order to provide an accurate time frame of delivery. as the days go on and we hear nothing from the company i call robert and he tells me he is looking at our stuff being loaded on the truck .. this is saturday.. he tells us the driver will be in touch. Now mind you we are relocating 3100 miles my a small 11 month old child and our 15 year old son, We just purchased a house and a new car so things were kinf of hectic . tuesday comes and i realize i have not heard from New Horizon Moving & Storage .. so i proceed to call to find out the deal. They tell us that our check 1k$ has bounced and our stuff will remain in storage in LA until 70% of our bill was paid by cash to be dep. in their Bank of america account .. which i found odd.. most businesses would allow you to make right on the check and not extort you for more money. after going back and fourth with the owner MIKE he then tells us until we make the payment we will not get our belongings. His secratary Sara informed us that we were able to make a payment using credit card in the amount 2750$ in which i did so .. however they informed me that the payment had not gone through .. only to find out they copied down the credit card info incorrectly .. and mike has told us once again we must deposit cash in his bank of america account. This whole thing just seems rather strange .. please make the pubLIC aware of their deceptive practies!
