Neighborhood Garage Door Service Reviews

  • Dec 31, 2016

America’s worst garage door company is Garage Door Services (972.534.2493 and many other numbers) out of Carrollton Texas. (It also goes by Dallas Overhead Garage Door Service in Dallas, Garland Garage Repair Now, Frisco Garage Repair Now, Carrollton Garage Door Services, DFW's Choice Overhead Garage Door Co and who knows how many other names?)

And they have lots of different free numbers to call.

It lists an address of 5430 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy, #1200 and has many phone numbers.

Their AD in Google always shows up on the first line, if you search for garage door repair or some similar combination. Other garage door companies don’t show up with all the false ads with different names.

This bogus place of many, many names began using a legit company called “Yes Door” on its invoices, but had no relationship to “Yes Doors” in Garland.

GDS uses for its copycat "Yes Garage Door Services" name the address of a shopping center on Old Denton Road in Carrollton. This steers customers away when there's warranty work or any other kind of trouble. GDS also uses the address of a UPS store on East Hebron Parkway. So when repairs go bad, as they often do, upset customers contact the real Yes Doors.

That's how GDS has operated for 20 years. The company, founded by Pete Stephens, steals names of existing companies to attract business, but when repairs fall off the track, GDS hides.

Other legit garage door companies say this scam of a company has been going on for years (I can get you testimonies) and this Steve guy is a ghost on a boat somewhere and no one seems to be able to touch him as he has people who do bad jobs, have customers replace things that do not need replacing, destroy a part while the customer leaves and then tells the customer they need a new part, and can charge thousands that honest garage door repair people charge a few thousand.

GDS uses so many names similar to existing companies that it causes havoc in the more than 30 U.S. cities where it operates. Customers have trouble figuring out which is the good company and which to avoid.

Former call center employees have said that they are supposed to pretend to be whatever company the customer believes she or he is calling.

"We are local," the manual states. "Do not tell a customer that you are sitting in Dallas. We have placed warehouse locations on the sales screen so you can provide an address if need be."

Not a real address, mind you. Just one to think the company is local when it's not.

GDS dispatches independent techs who work on commission to jobs all over the nation.

Avoiding GDS is difficult because the company uses hundreds of names across the U.S. and games Internet search engines to come up No. 1 in searches.

One clue: GDS sales reps always ask for your ZIP code. That's a tip-off.

I was one of their suckers.
